OKay twice this past weekend Oafman and I ran into a problem. We rolled a 2 for the hit location on a CT that had no armor. The 2 gives it an automatic crit in the CT. But the hitting a location with no armor also grants a roll for crit chance. Is that cumulative? Do you get the auto crit for the 2 roll and then roll again for chance for more crits? Or does one take prececdence over the other?

I probably have the least battle experience of anybody here, but I'd say the effect is cumulative. My old DMs (for D&D and the like) were harsh that way, and I guess now I am too.

Well, oddly enough I'd say its cumilative. Because we ruled it the floating. ANd if you rolled 7 for CT then you'd get one for punching through armour and one for the floating.

A roll of "2" on the location chart gives you a "possible crit", meaning you'd roll to see of you got any just as if you hit internal structure.

If you hit internal structure and rolled "2" you'd get two chances for possible crits.

Cumulative.

And start using the Floating Critical rule from MaxTech, it's fun! Any location roll of 2 is a possible critical, but you reroll the location hit. There will be less devastating CT criticals and more interesting stuff.

How do floating crits work? In the same way that you can be shot in the leg and have the bullet lodge in your brain?

For floating, if you roll a 2 for damage location, it just means you have a possible crit. You then reroll to see where both the damage AND crit will be. If you roll another 2, it just goes where it would have originally have gone, i.e. the CT if it's the front.

What happens is that if you roll snake eyes (1 and 1, or 2 if you add) on the hit location chart, you normally get a possible critical hit on the torso location (center from front or rear, sides from the sides).
Under the floating crit rule, if you role snake eyes, you get a possible critical. You then roll the on the location table again, and the second result is where you hit, and where you appliy the crit.

For example, I shoot a Mech in the back with a medium laser, and roll 2 for location. That results on a possible crit. Now, I roll location again, and roll a, sy, 5. That means the hit, and crit, are applied to the right leg, insted of the center torso (rear, as it were).

I definitely have to agree, you get TWO chances to crit the CT.

I also must agree that you should start using the Floating Crit Rule as other's have described it. It makes for more realistic and fun gameplay.

Just my two cents.
