For those of you who stay awake at night and wonder where various peoples are. I've been having serious issues with passion for gaming. Those that play locally have noticed a drop in how well I game. Its not changing the out come a lot. But at the same time I'm drained.

Also, I've not lost a match of Clicky except to the number 2 ranked player in the country lately. (We split fairly often and don't hit the same events often). Jyhad I'm undefeated lately. Same with the board game of Classic I've ran. DnD minis I've lost ONE match since getting into years ago when it started.

Making it long and short. Winning burnt me out. . Actually, Darkadder would probably point out I've skipped/quit every DnD session for 6 weeks straight now it seems like.

Anyone got a suggestion on how to get an edge back? Or do you people think I'm nuts for being depressed about winning. I'd almost rather be at work or running demos for newbies than playing a match against another opponent who knows what he's doing. I sometimes feel like gaming isn't worth it anymore. I'd be happier at home or dead than gaming.

For those of you that find me odd, well. Sooner or later I'll get around to posting the rest of my Liao designs, I think I submitted one at least before reading Jymset's post and realising I was disatisfied with life in general.

While I may not game as much as other people, I too have experience burnout in one form or another. I believe I can offer some advice here.

*Give your current group a gameworld overhaul. Have your current characters run through some apocalyptic scenario, so that they all either die or retire or whatever, clearing the way for a fresh set of characters. If the problem is difficulty of play, then you can ask your GM to deliberately set you against more challenging tasks.

*Seek out a new group to play with. While you don't neccessarily have to sever relations with your current group, a new batch of people can bring new perspecitves, experiences and life into your gaming.

*Try new game systems. Tired of D&D? Try Gamma World. Or Call of Cthulu.

*If nothing seems to be able to spark the life back into gaming for you, take a vacation from it. Period. Cold turkey. A sort of recuperative period can be very beneficial to gaining perspective on the situation.

I hope you find your center soon.

Find better players.

The tactics you mention using could be defeated by a seven year old.

I agree mostly with chihawk. It may take a 12-14 year old, (those that I know anyway). From what I've gathered you use level 3/ custom rules that give your forces a definitive edge over your opponents. Try to use realalistic opponents and also a realistic force composition. Very few merc grroups can maintain a regiment in size. And most merc groups are forced to sign onto contracts that aren't very good just to get money to survive. Also if a house unit, you would get the size but also get bad assignments and sometimes you wouldn't get any supplies at all. Happens all the time. These things contribute to make it difficult to get the jobs done before you even have an enemy to face. Also your enemy, if you've being invaded will have good supplies to accomplish it's objective and if the enemy is defending then they may have the same supply problems as previously stated. Unless they are guarding a high sensitive area. Also ,, the use of artillery would be used against you as well as the aerofighter strfes you so rececntly harped about. It'a all about air superiority. If you lose that battle you've lost the ground war. Period. So keep such in mind when you play. You will rarely have the great victories you're used to if you do. Also remember, you enemy will also be using infantry to spy on you, infiltrate rear areas, ambushes, sniper attacks, etc...

well FYI. My merc unit is a hard scrabble company (1 heavy, 1 Charger, 7 lights, 4 mediums). My Kurita front line REGIMENT is a different story. Two different characters.

As for the rest. Yeah, I'm really agreeing with most of you guys. I'm NOT unbeatable.

I'm changing over a lot of my groups. I quit DMing, never was too fond of the group I played in. I still have a character but haven't played lately.

Yeah, when work is more fun than gaming... I need to change something.

Sounds like you need a vacation.. or do the same thing Jymset did.
In the long-run, its the choice that makes you happy that's important.

In addition to everything else, try being a little more and less creative.

That is, set up new situations that will be interesting to explore (this might require a new DM/Referee) and playing scenarios that are more restrained. Many excelent level 3 players can wipe the floor with me, but if we limit them to level 1 lights, then we have a fight.

And, maybe you should just take a break for a while.

I understand exactly what you're talking about. I used to play level 3 rules and Epic level in DnD all the time but got burnt out and didn't play for nearly a year.

Here my advice:

DnD: Find a DM that has a thing for killing PCs, if you don't lose a character ALTEAST every other session you aren't dying enough.

CBT: LOSE, and lose often, don't do it intentionally, through your people into hopeless situations, a single company against an entire RCT, blast your people back to level 1 while the enemy stays at Level 3.

Clicky: can't help you there, sorry, never was real fond of it.

Sadistic DMs aren't the way to go here. Sure, a culling of the PCs every once in a while can both serve to add variety to the game and keep players on their toes, but having at least one character die every session? I played with a DM like that. It wasn't fun. I'd rather have the pointless "what now?" mentality of epic levels than the utter futility of having all my characters die before I can even get a good bead on them (I'm one of the roleplay/social players, not a powerplayer). I suggest trying to find a DM that, while tough, is also inventive.

For CBT, I can't offer any advice there, sorry.

Clicky: give yourself a handicap. Play 1:1.5, or even 1:2 point ratios (you have 300, your opponent has either 450 or 600. If there's a unit you use all the time ("Dagger Di" Jones for me), then deliberately don't use it. Try to come up with scenarios and terrain setups that favor your opponent.

These are just some of the things that worked for me.

Use mechs and weapons your bad with, get the other players to your level or go against larger forces.
