So who else has picked up the 80 pages for $1? I know I couldn't pass up the opertunity. Until I read this I had been trying to stay away from getting back into comics, while certainly not a wallet buster of a hobby it does add up after a while, but this time around my curiosity got the better of me.

A month or so ago I saw the Countdown cover in a magazine at the local hobby store and couldn't help but be intreged by it, some part of me HAD TO KNOW who it was they were going to kill off. Most of my friends had agree it would be Booster Gold who would go down but part of me said otherwise.

I never really thought much about Ted Kord, in fact in the six years since I stopped collecting comic books I completly forgot that the Blue Beetle ever even existed. Before I picked up countdown it had seemed to me that Ted's greatest enemy had been his own gut and the fight to keep it inside his costume. But when I read Countdown and how they took a character that noone really cared about and made you not just give a damn about his death but actually LIKE him through the 79 pages leading up to his untimely demise.

Incase you couldn't tell I thought the writing was excellent, and the dark brooding and generally beautiful artwork set the tone wonderfully. One of the cheif complaints most people have had was the treatment of the Blue Beetle by most of the First String Heroes, Batman was just plain rude, Superman seemed stuck up as ever, J'onn called him a fool and almost everyone else ignored him. The only ones who seemed to give a damn were Hal Jordan, Wonder Woman and Booster.

I was sad to see Ted go and I have some hope that they will bring him back and maybe even bring him up into the Big leages again. However judging from how countdown ended the most likly thing to happens is a third Blue beetle will take up the Scarab, which is sad because BB's greatest appeal was that he was a normal Human.

What did you guys think?

Indication I've been in Poli Sci too long: I thought you'd picked up the GAO abridged year-end report or something.

DC Comics: ahh, now I see.

Hehe With Kids around its hard to collect anything and have it remain safe and in nice condition. My minitures havent seen the light of day in 2 years now. Since they are out of the kids sight they are out of mind and I dont have to worry to much about repainting them.

Now when my youngest gets just a little bit older, then I will teach them the fine art of battletech.

I stopped collecting DC comics years ago, sticking with mostly Marvel's X-Men related titles, Avengers, Thunderbolts, and the CrossGen series...the latter closed shop, but I've continued with the Lady Death stuff that was spawned from them...I've also recently restarted getting some DC comics, with the Green Lantern Rebirth series, Teen Titans and just this last week, Outsiders, being the only titles I've started to purchase...

I just stick with my old favorites: Iron Man and the Spiderman line (Amazing, Spectacular, etc.)
