Okay, I have been trying to get the new ROTS figures and vehicles, thought they looked cool, and off my wife and I went to the store.
I have two of the Ankain/Jedi fighters...the boxes say figures and droids will fit...WRONG.
The current crop of figures won't fit and there is no place to put the droids...so I call Hasbro, explain to the lady who answers my call, why I am calling and what all is going on.
So after reading her the box and then telling her that no matter how I twist or turn the figures none of them will fit. She tells that all of the SW products have been through rigourious testing and I shouldn't be having problems. Telling her that I understand that and having the product in hand proves that some where some how the two don't match. She repeats her self, so I ask for a manager, after a 10 minute wait, I get one, explain to him what is going on and what the service rep had just told me. So he's able to think out side of the box, he asks me for the UPC number, the product numbers, which store I got the ships from and price etc...same for the figures. He says they should fit, but it's possible that they don't and he wants to fix the situation so...what does he do? He tells he will talk to his boss and then ask if I mind holding, I say no and off he goes. 45 minutes later, yes I am glad I have the day off, he comes back and tells me that he is sorry about the problem and they will send me two new fighters that should allow the figures to fit, and also that a new fighter is coming out that will fix the issue.
Now has anyone else had any problems with Hasbro and their products not living up to the claims made on the packaging and if I am not mistaken can't they get in a lot of trouble over this?

*shrug*
I just plan to use a Clone pilot in my Actis interceptor, as soon as I can find another one...the first pilot I got went into my Republic Gunship...I'll still need another (or maybe an AT-TE gunner) for that one...and another 3 if I get the ARC-170 fighter...

Well, the only thing I can say about this is that putting R2D2 on the front of a box of cheezits just feels wrong to me. I left that one on the shelf at the grocery store tonight.
And at the pepsi display, no, I did not talk to the cardboard Yoda to see if I was a winner.
Grow so old I have by drinking pepsi did not!

IIRC? That they're re-releasing a modified version means that they recognize the previous version is defective; not only that, but those who have the defective units are being given free replacements. Because of this, technically I think they're in the clear.
Also, Hasbro does have the reputation for putting out the occasional piece of junk. In 1991 they released the Sonic Apache as a part of the G. I. Joe toy line - from what I have heard, most of the people who came to own one hated it; many of them have since discarded the item.

I tend to buy less toys for myself, now that I am 30 and have a child. All of the new toys go to him. If the figure does not fit, my son will probably just rip the offending arm or leg off.

That was once my solution to any problem. My Darth Vader was not impaired in his mission for galactic conquest by the simple problem of no head! (he lost it in a rather unfortunate T-rex decapitating incident) in other words, head goes in dino's mouth but not out!
Although thank god modern fighters do fit the size of the pilot. Otherwise becoming a USAF pilot would be the most painful job!

Off hand, I have had no spectacular problems with Hasbro, although my experience is mostly on the TransFormers end of their toy lines.
My one complaint is the age of 5+ that they put on their Unicron fig. I'm 20, and have been transforming Transfomers for the better part of 15 years, and I had a hell of a time with this thing!

That's why they put on the skill level. Was Unicron an "expert" or "master", by any chance?
I too know the difficulty of the master series. My Optimus Primal (final version) is a bear to change.

Well...I decided to go ahead and take the pilot out of the Gunship and try him in my Eta-2 Actis-class starfighter...fits rather well actually...if the two "control sticks" on the side panels were shaped correctly, he could just about grab both...
This is the preview version of the fighter, btw...Think I'll get an Obi-Wan one soon...

Ever since the latter part of Generation Two, Hasbro / Takara has been upping the difficulty levels on their TF figures to keep up interest in the line. Back around 2003, I remember buying a pack of Mini-Cons (Armada Race Team) that have a transform just as complex as some of the original 1984 and 1985 basic-size figures (like Sideswipe or Blitzwing).

Yeah, I had Jazz. Took me a few hours to figure out how to change him from robot to car. Then another couple to change him back. Then they were made as easy to transform as Go-bots were, and the crappiness began.

All the 1984 and 1985 molds, as well as half of the 1986 molds, were either taken from pre-existing toy lines or were initially slated for a different toy line.

Jetfire was a Macross VF-1S Valkyrie. Whirl and Roadbuster were from the toyline to the anime Dorvack (respectively, they were the Ovelon Gazette and the Mugen Caliber). Four of the Insecticons were likewise borrowed from Bandai.
The rest were taken from two Takara toylines, Diaclone and a spin-off known as Micro Quick-Change. Takara was a Hasbro liscencee, and to this day they share control of the Transformers line.
A few notes:
1. When the mold was originally used with Micro Quick-Change, Megatron was a functional cap pistol. Hasbro gutted the mechanism and remolded the barrel to be solid. Likewise, Blaster was a functional FM radio and Soundwave came with a pair of headphones.
2. The gimmic for the Diaclone line was that all the figures released with it (even what we know as the Dinobots) could seat a driver figure that came with it. When Milton-Bradley released their TF figures in parts of Europe during 1984 and 1985, some of the figures were packed using the Diaclone styrofoam inserts even though none of the TF figures retained their drivers.
3. Another Milton-Bradly goof: The very first runs of the characters Ironhide and Tracks were accidently molded in their Diaclone colors but were still given their Transformers stickers. These two figures are very rare and highly sought after.
4. Bluestreak. When his mold was released with Diaclone, the figure was done up in blue. The original plan was to keep him that color, so the name Bluestreak was trademarked. At the last minute, however, the decision was made to have him be silver. Although no boxed samples have been found, there are rumors that there were indeed a few blue Bluestreaks released.
5. Sideswipe / Sunstreaker. Sunstreaker's Diaclone color was red, and there is evidence to suggest that he would have retained his red color for TF while Sideswipe would have been yellow. At the last minute, their colors were switched - however, the decals for Sunstreaker's upper arms had already been produced, so even though he wound up being yellow he had red shoulders. There is also evidence that due to this color change the character names were also swapped. In addition, although the Diaclone police car version of Sideswipe was released in the US (as Red Alert), the Diaclone police version of Sunstreaker was not.
6. Bumblejumper. Many of the original Mini-Bots were part of the MQC line and were made to look like the penny racer cars (the gimmic for MQC was that they looked like ordinary toys but were really robots). One of those molds, a hybrid of the molds that would become Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, was accidently released; versions have been found on both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper cards. No official name for the character has been given, but unofficially most fans call him Bumblejumper.

I always liked some of the off brand ones I had as a kid that were a bit more complex. I have a few that can be half transformed. I have a yellow bug that can be chaged so that it is in the car shape only with arms coming out of the sides of the front tires. A lot more fun to play with that way.

Unicron is Skill level 4, which is the highest they give. However, I also have the Energon Omega Supreme, who is also a 4, but is entirely simpler to transform.
I have the 20th aniversary Optimus Prime, and he is easily the best one ever made (can't beat full articulation). The best part is they kept the dicast metal construction.
They also re-introduced the dicast with the re-issues.
The coolest line recently have been the Alternators, original characters with modern vehicle modes and similar articulation to Prime.
I know that VW that you speak of. It is Bug Bite, from Super GoBots (just bigger GoBots).
