The door creeks open and a street clothing clad Talen walks in past Lurch who offers no challenge to the unarmed ex-Mechwarrior. He strides to the bar, asks for a RC and then looks around the room and smiles the kind of smile that a person makes when he is in a place he considers a home. Chihawk nods and Talen smiles and stands up.
"I'd like to have a moment of your time, please," Talen calls out to the patrons of the Bar and Grill. Some of the people look up, others stay face down in the pools of their own bodily fluids.
"I would like to take a few minutes to say a few words...
Wow...it has been a while now hasnt it? It was so long ago I stumbled into this place, a young kid with hardly any sense and even less tact. I can remember the original site with its welcoming "Another One Bites the Dust" MIDI playing as you entered. Those were simplier days for many of us. I didnt post back then...and soon the page changed and the Board became a 2nd home for me. I can still remember my first post...a 100ton Guasszilla. How the times have changed.
I have seen many versions of the Bar and Grill. I was there for the great crash of...whenever...and I remember rushing to put up a new board to house us until Mordel could get his god powers in check long enough to secure our permanent home here. I remember the numerous simian wars, the BOIL-Talen wars, the Talen-Clone Wars, the coming of the evil that is in the kitchen, Lurch's first day on the job, the old no-weapons policies, all the times the pinball machine broke down and even the few times that Mordel came out of his office. It has been a long road. I cant remember exactly how long it has been, but my guess is 7 years here. Many of you watched me grow up, offered me support and in turn I offered what I could to you, and the younger pups that followed in after me.
You guys have been like a second family at times, unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere. And though I dont spend much time here in the Bar and Grill anymore, I still think of many of you as part of the Lance and would glady fight beside you should the Clans invade (or, for some of you, should the IS try and defend itself).
I would like to thank every single one of you for what you have helped me with over the years, but that would take way too much time and I would leave too many people out, and I would hate to leave out anyone that deserves credit for anything. If you think you are deserving of some thanks from me, then you are probably right.
Most of all I must thank Mordel and Chihawk. Mordel for letting us Mechwarriors hang around his pad all the time, and Chihawk for being the best goddam bartender Solaris, Outreach and the entire galaxy has ever seen (who else could keep track of all the rounds bought here). So...2 cheers for those two. And 2 more cheers for all of us for the sake of drinking more. And a few more drinks to the Bar and Grill istelf.
I will now leave with a few words I hope will carry you whenever they can...
What we made was bigger than any one person. Very few people would remember it was Talen that started calling this the Bar and Grill (he would never forget). Warriors would come, and warriors would go. They would all be missed, but there would always be pleanty of people that visited the once run-down, shot up and often in trouble of being shut down bar. Outside they would fight, bicker, shoot, war and politick. Inside, however, they were comrades, friends, buisness associates and half-dunk usually. It was a place we could go to forget our troubles for a few laughs at someone's expense. It was a place we could go to propose ideas, to fight int he sim-pods and a place to get an expensive drink. Most of all, though, it has been and will be a place we feel welcome, no matter how many times we might have shamed our name.
Here is to the Bar and Grill. To old comrades that have moved their seperate ways, but whose seats will forever be saved and honored. To new comrades whose spots can be taken away by the old comrades. Here is to all the Mechwarriors that have fallen over the years (god bless your souls), and to the new Mechwarriors that will contine to populate this place. But most of all, here is to you...Cheers mates.

*Slythis is honored to be the first to stand and raise his brown bottle of Souix City Sassparilla high to Talen's toast*
I've been around for a little less than half of your seven years but I'm sorry to see you go and hope to see you return *salutes with his free hand*

Then what was the monologue for? Just a tribute to the Fallen?

You see the words, but you do not read them...
It is a tribute to everybody here. Those who have come and gone, and those yet to arrive. It is a toast to friends, family and comrades.

I was kind of wondering. Very moving. This an aniversary, or just feeling like a good speach (I know sometimes the spirit just moves). _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Hmm if you are having trouble differentiating the difference between the movement of the spirit or the bowels ...your laundry must smell pretty nasty
You left yourself wide open for that one!

Yep....she asked for a leave of absence years ago and never came back.
I think it had to do with the grey meat spitting at her as she served it.

Heck, I learned battlemech design at Old Dog's feet. Thats the reason I'm no longer liao. I never felt I measured up to Mr. Poe there. So I picked Kurita and stuck with it now for years it feels.
