Everything can be reverse engineered or plain stolen, given enough time. It may be financially lucrative to sell things while you're the only one who can build them. If the buyer pisses you off he's out of spare parts.
The FWL hasn't been shy about selling high tech such as ER lasers to anyone with the money to buy. Why would the others say no to some extra cash?
