NO! Macross Plus is the follow up series of Macross which was licensed and butchered by harmony gold [ruined BT u butheads] to create Robotech.
The original Macross shares many if not most of the same story elements as Robotech because it serves as the base animation for Robotech; however, it is not the same thing.
The original Macross time line includes these animations: Macross, Macross Plus, Macross Plus Movie, Macross 7, and recently released in japan Macross Zero. The series Robotech and the movie Macross 2 are parallel worlds but are not part of the official time line. There is a Macross movie also called do you remember love, but i cannot remember if it is cannon or parallel.

"Disclaimer" The following is my opinion only any resemblance to actual fact and or anyone elses opinion is purely coincidental.
Because from what I can tell they think only 15 year old kids. There litterally THOUSANDS of books out there that could be turned into wonderful movies and or trilogies. To name a few.
The Stainless steel rat (interstellar con man and thief who believes that the universe should be happy hes around because he gives them entertainment. He later gets cought and turned into a cop).
BATTLETECH (we all have hopes that this will eventually get made. But I dont think anyone has to much hope that it wont get butchered and end up as bad as. the new versions of ''How the Grinch stole christmas" and "The cat in the hat")
Star Wars There are so many books from this series that would be great great movies. And yes even Michael Stackpools X-wing Rogue squadron would be GREAT. its a very good series. They really need to try not to kid them down though.
The Sword of Shannarar A wonderful fantasy series.
The Magic kingdom for sale SOLD! Another series that is just fun if they tried to stay true to the books it would be wonderful.
The Dragonlance series. Completely agree with you mud. Jeremy Irons must be embaressed to have been in that.
Anything by Issac Asimov. (the guy has what 700+ books the Lucky star series I remember liking quite a bit. been a long time since I read them though).
That is all I can think of right now. Think this got a little off topic Sorry about that.

I would say Stackpole's starwars books as a whole are worth a read. Most people from battletech hate him but i have alot of respect for the guy as i read I. Jedi and the X-wing books before. He is a good writer.
Also, if they were to make a Star Wars series or set of movies. The Yuuzhan Vong invasion would kick ass. The galaxy getting wiped out by Aliens, Heroes dying left right and centre. Famous planets being wiped out.
If you wanted a dark setting for a more adult star wars series, thats where to put it. You can't do anything but fear the YV, even though they are from a book. The Corusant battle would be spectaular.
Space fight, Air fight, Ground fight, and finally total defeat for the republic.
Any story where the good guys are losing is good.
P.S just out of interest, in the SW fact file the estimated deaths during the YV war was 347 trillion! Ouch,

Okay, so I satand corrected on that Macross/RoboTech mix-up.
As for Macross: Do You Remember Love, there is something about it mentioned on the trailers for Macross Plus. Macross Plus is said to take place ten years after Do You Remember Love. My thinking is that is the title of the first series.
Oh, and the Macross Plus movie version is just a crappier, condensed version of the mini series. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but teh series is better.

Macross: Do You Remember Love is a movie set within the standard Macross Universe...
The timeline goes as follows:
Macross Zero: prior to 2009, but after the crash of the SDF-1-OVA series
Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: primary story is 2009 to 2010 (with some events taking place from the 1990's to early 2001 (2005? the initial prologue to the series)-tv series
Macross Flashback 2012: 2012-series of animated music videos (also has the final concert Lynn Minmei holds on Earth and the launch of the SDF-2 Pioneer under Admiral Misa Hayase along with an escort fleet primarily made up of Zentreadi ships)
Macross Plus: 2030-OVA series (and a movie version as well)
Macross 7: circa 2040 to 2045 (should only be a couple years at most in length, I think...I think it actually starts in 2043, but it's been a while since I watched the series)-tv series
Macross 7: The Galaxy is Calling Me: ~2045-mini-movie
Macross 7: Dynamite 7: after Macross 7 (but still 2045, IIRC)-OVA series
Macross: Do You Remember Love? was a movie made during the 2020's or 2030's IIRC, and is mentioned as such during the Macross 7 tv series...
Macross 2: Lover's Again is set in an alternate universe in the 2080 timeframe (or thereabouts)...
Ruger (hmm...now, I just need to get those other 25 episodes of the original series and Macross Zero...then I'd have it all...)

There is yet a chance for Firefly, they are making a movie out of it. I wish I had the link to the trailer, it looks AMAZING!
BTW the movie is being called serenity.
As for Robotech, it is a blight on the good name of Macross.
What I would LOVE to see is for someone to take the Novel "War at Troy" and have it's author adapt The Odessy in the same manner that he did with the Illiad and make a Trilogy out of it; The Backstory could make the first movie, the War at Troy the second and the Odessy the third.

That would be interesting to see. I thought that Troy was fairly well done.
On a side note, a few of us are going to see Kingdom of Heaven this weekend in our SCA garb. Still debating if I should wear the chainmail though....

It looks pretty good. I've never heard of the show before, but I'll have to look into it.
Why do they always cancel the greatest shows? And why do I never know such shows even exist?

a Trilogy just isn't long enough to fit that in, and trilogies tend to be the best fit, short enough that you can keep the actors and directors for all three without being so long that things get out of hand.

It could be done if people didn't mind a series of three hour movies.
I've been of the opinion for about three years that an excelent trilogy would be "TROY" with the first movie the story of Achilles, the second the story of Odysseus, and the third the story of Aeneas.
Troy would not work in such a trilogy since it A.) changed significant events that affect the later works, and B.) excorcised the gods.
I think an interesting scene would be played in the latter two movies: Odyseous leaving the underworld while Aeneas is entering. They pass each other on the river Styx and don't know it. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."
