You mean it wasn't already ruined?
And besides, it's not like Hollywood hasn't ever done that sort of thing before (ruin stuff that is). In fact, they're pretty good at it now. Especially given that original ideas seem to be at a premium these days.

You didn't already know about this?
Someone once told me that movie studios aren't in the business of making movies, their in the business of copyrighting movies. The movie can crash and burn, the studio will still get its money back on licensing (if only for a "worst movies ever made" special).

Besides, you never know if it will actually be good. Just like movies made from a book, you have to separate the two. The 2 Spiderman movies left the main plots of the comic books and were still good movies.
Other than that I just have 3 words for you.

I can see Willie Nelson playing Uncle Jesse. I can't see Burt Reynolds playing Boss Hog. You need someone with less hair and much fatter. Too bad M.C Gainey looks nothing like ole Roscoe. They need better casting.

It's simple as to why they're doing this. They're out of ideas. They for some reason feel obligated to churn out a few dozen movies each year, and to meet that self-imposed quota, they often have to fall back on crappy ideas (like this one).

Actually, Ive heard rumors that Hollywood is going to take a stab at making DOOM into a movie, with The Rock as leading role.....

I first got the feeling about this on Electric Playground, where they showed models of the General Lee.
I can't say that I'll go and see this, or even rent it, as I never watched the show.

BTW, if you really want something to go "Why, God, Why?!" over, 20th Century Fox obtained the rights to make a live-action DragonBall Z movie a few years back.
This is on top of the live-action Sailor Moon series currently airing in Japan (which I heard someone describe as a train wreck in progress), plus the live action versions of Trigun and Neon Genesis Evangelion (both of which are currently filming last I heard) and Lupin III optioned by US studios.

Yep. It's already in post-production, if I remember correctly. But I don't remember if ol' Dwayne is playing the doomguy, or if he's playing Sarge.

There was already a live-action Dragonball-like movie done in 1993 or so. I had the horrifying experience of actually watching it. It was so bad it was almost funny.
Also I don't think Burt Reynolds actually has all that much hair.

That one was done by an Asian movie studio. Z has been optioned by 20th Century Fox, meaning over-the-top special effects and good odds that the plot will be weak.

She is the biggest reason I cant watch this movie. The woman cant sing, and certainly cant act (that much is apparent from the trailer I watched)
Sorry, but much like the movie Electra.
A scantly clad piece of ass does NOT a movie make.
Guess its just me but I really don't find her that attractive. But the entire cast is wrong. And not that the show was incredible to begin with, but it deserves more dignity then this.
And as far as hollywood an poor movies go, there is a vast wealth of movie ideas out there that they could do IF the wanted to.
Lets see.
Stainless Steel rat series.
BATTLETECH
Dragon riders of Pern
Dragon Lance (tell me, who doesn't want to see a kender)
Sword of shanara
Magic kingdom
Star wars
Star trek
Dungeons and Dragons.
At this point LOTR showed hollywood that people are going to sit through a LONG movie if its done right. Now they just need to stop thinking that these are only for kids and produce some decent movies that follow the book.
