==Overview:==
The McKenna Class battleship was the largest jump-capable craft built
during the Star League and remains perhaps the best-known of all Warship
classes. It is little wonder then that our magnificent order has seen fit in
there infinite wisdom to use the battered hull of one that our ROM Agents
located in a remote system to be refitted and repaired to resurrect the glory
of the Star League and usher in a new era for our beloved order through the
new Ian Cameron Class Dreadnought.

==Capabilities:==
Weighing 2 million tons and measuring almost 1.5 kilometers in length like
its mother vessel the McKenna, the Ian Cameron is one of the most fearsome
vessels ever constructed. Like its mother vessel, an unprecedented number and
variety of weapons give the design an arsenal that is more impressive then
even modern standards. The ships primary batteries are eighty-eight Naval
Auto-Cannon Class 25s that are mainly located along the vessel's sides are
capable of reducing targets larger then fighter craft to space debris at
ranges exciding 300 kilometers. Using techniques pioneered by Takashi
Yamamoto in his Mori Class Battle Cruiser, the refit yards were able to mount
the majority of the Naval Auto-Cannon Class 25s in side bays that are capable
of an uninterrupted 90 degree arc of fire. To further compliment these
weapons are a series of broadside bays each armed with the more powerful yet
shorter ranged Naval Auto-Cannon Class 40. This allows the Ian Cameron to
release a broadside attack that is assured to destroy any vessel unlucky
enough to find its self facing one, with the exception of the heavily armored
Clan Ghost Bear Leviathan 2. In addition, our blessed order has equipped the
Ian Cameron with six bow mounted Kraken-T Anti-Warship missile launchers.
These missiles allow for long range accurate weapon strikes against enemy
Warships and Dropships who lay beyond the range of the Ian Cameron's main
guns. To further augment all of this Warship's destructive capabilities, an
array of twenty-four anti-fighter Large Pulse Lasers and sixteen anti-missile
systems were mounted on this ships bow, broadsides, and stern; In addition,
the Ian Cameron carriers forty-eight aerospace fighters and six Dropships to
augment it's offensive capabilities and endurance.
However, in order for the refit crews to get all of these weapons into
the old McKenna hull, they had to substantially alter several sections of the
vessels outer appearance, increased the hulls overall mass, and reduced the
cargo bays to roughly eighteen percent of there previous size. The internal
superstructure was also substantially altered and reinforced in order to
support the stress of the new guns and the mass of the new armor plating. The
new Lamellor Ferro-carbide plating used on the Ian Cameron offers a greater
degree of protection per square inch then the original plating of the McKenna
and has been laid in thicker quantities at nearly triple that of the McKenna.
The Ian Cameron Class Dreadnought still has twelve months before its
refits are finished and shake down trials begin. Despite this, the ships
crew, which has been selected from among the most skilled and loyal personnel,
is already in training aboard other Comstar Warships and eagerly awaits
deployment. May the Blessings of Blake be with these crewmen as they depart
to defend our Blessed Order and uphold the might and justice of the New Star
League.

Very nice ship, some energy backup weapons and long range anti-fighter defense would be useful. If you run out off missiles than you may have problems with faster ships that have weapons for extreme ranges (probably this is not going to happen, but ...).

After consulting with my advisors, it was deemed that while dual ERPPCs make an effective Anti-Fighter turret the dual LPL turret served the job better. It may not have the range of the PPC but it does have an inherent -2 to hit those slippery devils. Since this vessel should easily be escorted by at least two other warships, its was deemed acceptable and prefeared. It will let its own fighter force deal with enemy fighters beyond its own range.

As for mounting some extreme ranged weapons to counter faster warships, it again was deemed that with its average speed of 3/5 that only the very light or very lightly armored would be able to remain at extreme range. This means that such vessels would not be able to withstand 2 or 3 turns against the Kraken-Ts or against any escort warships that accompany the Ian Cameron. It was a concern of mine; however, i deemed it a small failure that must be allowed in order to gain the impressive weaponry that is mounted. It was this same goal that restricted the use of energy based cannons on the design. I will take a look at some alternatives but will likely not use them. If longevity is your concern, all of these cannons have plenty of in bay ammo and the ship can easily carry sufficent reloads for the cannons. the kraken-ts, on the other hand, require alot of mass and will likely be carried in reserve on a cargo dropship or fleet supply ship.

Thanks for the imput, i wish i could test these designs some. I could very well be deluding myself on the AA and extreme ranged weapons.

==Overview:==

==Capabilities:==
The ships primary batteries are sixty-four Naval
In addition, our blessed order has equipped the
Ian Cameron with six bow mounted Kraken-T Anti-Warship missile launchers and
twenty-four Heavy Naval Particle Projection Cannons mount in the bow, stern,
and side bays. These missiles and NPPCs allow for long range accurate weapon
strikes against enemy Warships and Dropships who lay beyond the range of the
Ian Cameron's main guns. To further augment all of this Warship's destructive
capabilities, an array of twenty-four anti-fighter Large Pulse Lasers and
sixteen anti-missile systems were mounted on this ships bow, broadsides, and
stern; In addition, the Ian Cameron carriers forty-eight aerospace fighters
and six Dropships to augment it's offensive capabilities and endurance.
However, in order for the refit crews to get all of these weapons into
the old McKenna hull, they had to substantially alter several sections of the
vessels outer appearance, increased the hulls overall mass, and reduced the
cargo bays to roughly twelve percent of there previous size.
League.

Notes on changes:

As i said i would do, i ran some changes and what ifs on adding some extreme ranged energy weapons and this is what i came up with.

By dropping the bow and stern NAC/25s in favor of HNPPCs and dropping 4 NAC/25s in each side bay in favor of HNPPC, i was able to retain most of this ships firepower. I only lost 40 Capital damage per side arc and 20 each in the bow and stern. However, i was able to gain 60 extreme ranged damage in each of those arcs. 60 capital damage is more then sufficent to severaly hurt anything manuverable enough to stay at extreme range.

I also altered the Ammo in each of the weapons. The Kraken-Ts now have 20 shots each, which is more then enough. The cannons each mount 100 tons of ammo, which translates into 167 rounds per NAC/25 and 83 rounds per NAC/40. If you are in any engagement were that number of rounds is insufficent, you are in some big trouble. Besides, most warships return to space dock after a major engagement in order to effect repairs.

In order to fit the heat sinks for the HNPPCs and the additional ammo, I had to reduce the cargo bays even further. however, when i thought about it: What would these cargo bays likely be carrying? Ammo. So I just added the ammo straight into the weapons.

Over all, I think the design mainly gains from these changes even if 30,000 BV is lost on the design. It is truely my most prized Warship design.

I don't want to say that the design has any real flaw. These comments are just possible technical bugs. It's ammo bays are already sufficient for whole campaign.

In my eyes it's even more impressive. I'm a fan of naval ACs and this ship packs a lot of them. There are some backup weapons too. I'm not sure, but Heavier AMS arrays should be installed too if the lasers are not capable of engaging capital missiles (fighters can destroy teleoperated missiles, but standard missiles must be destroyed by weapons mounted on the ship, if I'm not mistaken (written around 22:30)) It can survive many hits, but why should it take unnecessary repairs?

I mounted so few because of how warships are constructed. Every weapon over 20 in a single arcs requires additional fire control computers. however, these computers are weighty for Capital Class Weapons. In addition, Capital Class weapons are the first ones selected when the weapons are above 20 to fire controlled. This means to add 41 tons of AMS will increase the weapon weight by about 1300 tons for and aft and about 9000 tons for the broadsides.

It just weighs to much, so I had to accept the risk of missile impacts.

Yes, this limit is strange. I would understand mounting additional computers for each weapons above 20 (Problems with letting the payers decide what weapons are above 20 probably discouraged this approach to the problem). It's quite obvious that firepower was your primary concern
