THIS Post will not contain spoliers, or details. I will simply say that this movie is easily the best movie I have seen this year. Its funny, cynical, creepy, awesome and overly enjoyable. You must see it.

Okay, so, since there isnt much to spoil story wise, this will simply be details that I noticed and liked/disliked.
Depp as Wonka was absolutely awesome. I heard that Marillyn Manson was the original choice, but I think Depp did an absolutely amazing job being totally cynical and completely reclusive. He captured the essence of this version of Wonka amazingly.
The Oompa Loompa's were hillarious. Their song and dance numbers were great, espicially the Van Halen/Spinal Tap tribute metal piece. My dissapointment here was the songs were a little hard to understand.
The overall style of the movie was actually very reminiscent of the original, with a darker, more secretive feel to everything. Great job here.
The casting for the rest of the characters was well done. But Christopher Lee as Willy's father stole the show (when isnt Lee awesome?)
My ONLY dissapointment for the ENTIRE movie was the boat ride. And this is a nitpick at worst. I absolutely loved the boat ride in the original movie, espicially the creepy poem Gene Wilder was saying. I was hoping it would have stayed in...but, alas, it was taken out.
Such an awesome movie, I'm going to have to go see it again.

See for me this movie is one I am really torn over.
(now understand I hate the movie theater in the first place and must really really WANT to see the movie to go.)
But admittedly I am NOT a big Tim Burton fan. BUT I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE Johnny Depp fan. And in all honesty I was never a big fan of the original movie. I have to admit that as bad as I want to see this one, I am just to cheap to shell out the $8.50 to see it in the theater.
(but then I could have done that with SWEP3 and been just as happy)

That is why I am glad that we have a dollar theater here. I have a big list of movies that are on my must see list, but not on my willing to pay out the yingyang to watch list.

The theater has become absolutley insane
8.50 per ticket 6.50 for kids.
3.50 for med popcorn
3.75 for Large Drink
4.25 for kids meal deal
2.75 for a candy assortment
Now with 2 kids to see a night show were looking at nearely 30 dollars JUST to get in. If everyone wants food and drinks your looking at another 23 dollars. this dosent include tax. So 53 dollars to go and see a movie that may or may not be enjoyable.
Man I am glad I didnt see Cat in the hat in the theater at that price.
Sorry just a little rant sorry for the derail.

I would make an evening out of it and make the goddam keeds eat taco bell burritos at $0.79 and make the drink there. If they want candy they can say what they want ahead of time and get it at the store, smuggle it in, and just pay for the movie.
That way you only end up paying the ruthless move ticket fee, and not the even more ruthless food fee.
