First the 77X a design that I am only sort of happy with. As always comments are appreciated.

BattleMech Technical Readout

Type/Model: Hatchetman custom HCT-77X
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3050
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 2, Standard design

Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: Chariot Type II Endo Steel
Power Plant: 225 Edasich Motors XL Fusion
Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h
Jump Jets: 5 Luxor 2/Q Standard Jump Jets
Jump Capacity: 150 meters
Armor Type: Durallex Super Medium with CASE Standard
Armament:
2 Medium Lasers
1 ER PPC
2 Streak SRM 4s
Manufacturer: Defiance Industries
Location: Hesperus
Communications System: TharHes Thalia HM-22
Targeting & Tracking System: TharHes Ares-8a

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Originally when introduced the Hatchetman was met with very warm reviews.
Shortly after there were many complaints about speed and survivability that
came up. A few models have been tried and this is yet another attempt to
"right the wrongs", so to speak.

==Capabilities:==
The hardest part of any project is trying to come to an agreement with the 3
main issues concerning every battlemech. The Mech has to have speed - armor -
firepower, and the balance has to be perfect or close to it. After looking at
the initial blueprints for the Hatchetman the designers found that the
firepower was good the speed was mediocre at best, as well as the armor.
One of the things the designers did was to remove the old XL engine and give
it a slightly more powerful XL (though they have reservations about this and
are currently looking at a unit that keeps its original speed and uses a light
engine instead), this allows for near max armor and a much different weapons
package. The second was to use endo steel, as that gave a slightly better
savings per ton over Ferro Fibrous. A pair of standard medium lasers are used
instead of the ER models to allow for better heat management. The LB-10X was
removed in favor of a ERPPC, This allows for constant firing of the PPC with
out having to worry about ammo. A pair of Streak SRM 4's were added opposite
of the PPC and are heavily shielded to avoid detection and act as a surprise
to any unsuspecting MechWarrior. (A unique launch system was used and is the
same as the LRM launch system on the Atlas, all 4 missiles shoot out of 1 tube
so only 2 launch tubes are visible). And as always the hatchet remains the
same.

==Deployment==
Currentely none are in Deployment. The 4 Prototypes that they have are in the
testing phase and are awating evaluation to further the design.

being tested with the 77X, the 88X (dubbed the "ugly 88") does seem to be
favored slightly over the 77X.

I miss the LB-10X. Shooting people with cluster munitions for crit seeking was always fun. The SRMs make up for it once you get into firing range.

The 88X is the better try IMO. It keeps the same speed so you don't have to think about that in addition to the new weapons.

I considered the PPC Hatchetman before, but made nothing yet. The SRMs nicely complement the close range firepower.

How bout downgrading the Hatchetman to 4/6/4 with a Light Engine instead ?

More lyran feel and the mech isn't quite as vulnerable. Of course it will still be a city mugger in such a configuration. But meh its still your call.

Yup 88X or the "Ugly 88". Interestingly enough with the downgraded speed and the light engine you get to mount an extra medium laser. over all I think I really like the 88X.

Don't call it downgraded speed. It's the original speed of the Hatchetman.
