------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
In 3067, the DCMS pressured by militia all over the periphery and outer
rim placed a request for a ultra-light high speed combat craft that could be
used in the event of an attack. The response was both great and varied.
However, the final decision was to use an interesting design produced by a
small company that was based upon an old earth aircraft. In respect of this
design, the company, Matsahiro Engineering, calls this new vehicle, the ME-163
Komet.
==Capabilities:==
The design is a simple one that was designed to allow even the most
under-experienced pilot use one, which is a plus for the often under trained
militia. The design and concept are simple in there elegance. Using a single
jet turbine in conjunction with semi-controllable vectored thrust, the Komet
rises quickly into the sky from practically any airport armed with a single
nose cannon and an array of rocket pods that it then uses against hostile
targets before its fuel is spent and it glides back to earth. The Komet has a
few features that its old brethren did not have: retractable landing gear,
adjustable throttle, the use of standard aviation fuel, and space for external
stores. The controls have also received an update but hardly surpass those
used in the majority of civilian aircraft with the marked exception of basic
targeting equipment and sensors. While not an impressive craft which can
hardly engage light aero fighters let alone heavy ones, it is one that fills
its intended roll nicely and has been well received by many militia units
throughout the Draconis Combine.
==Variants:==
A variant of the ME-163 that replaces the weapons load out with five nose
cannons by replacing the rocket pods with gun mounts. This variant is well
received do to its longer combat duration.

Nice design, and appropriate, I think. The use of RLs makes a lot of sense, as well.
Did you know a relative of mine flew an Me163? (And was melted a bit by its fuel, as well )

Most Komet that were lost were destroyed by take off or landing accidents because of the very volatile fuel!

Thus the reason i noted the use of more stable fuel.

Revi 16B? (German WWII tag. system)
The weapons resemble Me 163 A variant - 40 unguided rockets on wooden racks.

I read about few accidents involving Z-stoff and T-stoff. Main problem was that the plane was unable to use all fuel and when it landed the remains often mixed and ...
