Waaaaayyyy cool!
Have I seen it right? He put his lightsaber into the ground, turned himself around and grabbed it again?

It's grainy because it's an older one. It makes an appearence in this article:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/content/public/articles/000/000/004/083mvybq.asp
(And ya'll thought the Weekly Standard was just a political mag, well, I read it for the movie reviews. )
Not mentioned in the article, but as it is passed down to me by friends in the movie business (very low in the movie business, but in the movie business nonetheless), Art of the Saber started as a Kung-Fu movie. There's probably a holdover of that in the scene where the saber is stuck in the ground: something that makes sense with a sword, less with a light-saber. The opening monologue and lack of fantastic elements tends to lean in that direction too. It's not a very Star-Warsy film.
Anyway, after some of the early shooting, they decided to test their editing ability and they reshot portions and re-edited the film as a light saber duel.
And despite that lecture, I'm really not a conesuer of the fan-film. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Very nice indeed. I would love to see a high res version of it.

Very nice duel, but the light saber would probably fall, if planted to the ground. It's no Excalibur

Agree about the light saber. But that little issue aside I can forgive that and still enjoy it.
I found a good clean high res copy of it. at
http://fxhome.com/cinema/info_cache/movieinfo479.html
it looks great and there is a lot that the low res version looses. All in all a VERY impressive short film.

Just watched it again and have only one criticism. Couldn't they have come up with a better costume than a tee-shirt and sweatpants?

Yeah I can agree with that. but I guess the back story on it is they were actually working on doing a samuari movie and then decided to use light sabers instead.

It shows you what the Star Wars series has been missing, a super kung fu ninja kick ass Samurai jedi!
The moves they used in that fight looked more skillful than the stuff Hadyn Christiansen and Ewan Mcgregor used in Episode three. Ok they arent exactly kung fu experts but its suposed the be the mother of all sabre fights.
