A redesign of my old Jammer Pod. This one performs the explicit function of negating the To Hit bonus of Pulse Lasers, which is what I'd originally intended the Jammer Pod to do.
Pulse Disruption Pod
Level 2/3058
Cost: 8,000 C-Bills/ton
Shots/ton: 3
PDPs are an extremely complex and heavy weapon, which restricts the number that can be carried, but they can still be fired from any standard NARC launcher system. They affix themselves to the exterior of the target, and begin to generate a strong, randomized electronic pulse throughout the victim. While most weapons and systems are relatively unaffected by the pulses, the sensitive cyclic circuitry of Pulse weapons is severely affected. Instead of unleashing a veritable hailstorm of energy bolts (the only possible explanation for an automatic +2 To Hit), the weapons fire a coherent beam, much like that of any other laser, although slightly more powerful. The PDPs only carry enough energy for about one minute of continuous operation, after which the electromagnets that secure it lose power, and the pod falls away harmlessly.
CBT effects: The afflicted unit loses all To Hit bonuses normally given to Pulse weaponry for 6 turns.
RPG effects: The electronic pulses may disrupt the battle computer of the victim, hindering target identification and other ancillary functions.

So does it only affect pulse weapons? or does it just a a base +2 or + 3 to hit? I like the concept, (love the EMP pulse lrms they make even 5 shot launchers a big bonus).

Just Pulse Lasers. I wanted something to even the odds against Pulse/Targeting Comp. 'mechs, as well as all those Pulse Laser boats you hear about.

I had thought the pulse lasers fired a series of laser streams instead of a long continuous beam from a normal laser. The series of pulses allowed you to track your fire onto your target, hence allowing you a bonus on your to hit roll. Whereas the normal laser's beam was instantaneous, you either hit or didn't.

I dont know, but I do kind of think it should affect the targeting system of the affected unit. Just disrupting one weapon type seems wierd, but that may just be me.

It is a little wierd, but I specifically wanted to negate the accuracy advantages of Pulse Lasers, removing the Pulse side of the Pulse/Targeting Comp. combo.
Just an attempt to combat munchiness.
However, one of the guys at the HeavyMetal forum convinced me to change part of the fluff for the munition:
Quote:
| While most weapons and systems are relatively unaffected by the pulses, the complex target-corrective circuitry that gives Pulse weapons their inherent accuracy is severely affected. The stream of laser bolts becomes very difficult to track on target; the Pulse Lasers become no more accurate than any other weapon. |
