1 point contact: This is a person who the character would interact with on a peer-to-peer basis. They have a specialty area of knowledge, and can usually spare an hour or so to talk with the player. However, aside from their specialty and / or circle of contacts, they cannot do very much for the character. Examples: merchant, scientist, bartender.
2 point contact: This is a person who at one time held a supervisory position over the character. This person not only has a specialty area of knowledge, but can also arrange for minor favors (such as news items or personal items ahead of their official release date). The trade-off is that this person may need a day or two before they can speak with the character. Examples: acadamy commandant, guild leader.
3 point contact: This is a person who has a fair amount of power and possibly even prestige for themselves. If this contact can be brought into play, then the character can expect goodly benefits (such as free transportation or access to newer equipment). However, this contact will likely be very busy; the character will not only need to have patience but will also need to have a very good reason why the contact should intervene on their behalf. Examples: minor noble, manager of a Quikscell plant.
4 point contact: This person will have a considerable amount of power over the character and will most likely have a lot of prestige as well. A few words from this person, and the character could quite literally expect to have a mountain moved in their behalf. Communication with this contact will be difficult due to their incredibly busy schedule, and the contact will most assuredly demand a favor in return unless the character can convince them otherwise (such as an appeal to membership in a common organization). Examples: major noble, CEO of Defiance Industries.

The original trait only ran from 1 - 3. What I have as the 1 point and the 2 point versions were merged together, which to me never made any sense. Also, the original description only mentioned that the higher-ranked contacts might be unavailable; realistically, one would also expect someone to need some incentive to get the really good stuff out of them.

Ok thanks for clearing that up then Kraekn. I don't have any of my books here with me in Japan.
In that case then, it sounds pretty damn good. THe game play seems to be well balanced and thought out. I can't forsee any problems in game.
Though I will say a word of caution about making it available. Don't penalize your players for trying to contacting them and have their contact always be unavailable, but atthe same time, don't make thme completely unreachable.
