Multiple variants of the standard design built by one small company.
I'm not fond of that kind of factory nonsense.
Then again its not a great mech and its brutally expensive.
The dual ER mediums make it an effective back up to the RR-1 but at the same time the RR-2 is just as vulnerable to defensive units.

| First where did you come up with the small company crap .Nothing in the fluff says that the Rambler Corporation is a small company. Second using the same chassis for differant mission profiles makes a lot of sense from a logistics stand point fewer spares needed if all the machines in a unit use most of the same parts.

You can't throw a rock without hitting a new mech these days!
Using a variant of the same chassis does make sense if you care about saving resources and simplifying support functions.

I agree, if you look at every military they normally try to get 10 different vehicles out of a single chassis...the US Army used the M113 chassis for a host of vehicles, same has been done to some degree with the Bradely and the old M60 tank chassis.
The IDF has numerous examples of taking older chassises and turning them into other vehicles or variants of the main AFV.
So it does make a lot sene for the IS and the clans to do the same thing.

What I find amusing is that chassis only has 3 variants the 20 ton Harley-Davidson HD-9 series quads have 4 variants and the HD-7 has 6 and i am thinking of adding a 7th. the CHT-1 Cheetah series has 8 variants the 10 and 15 ton Harley-Davidson chassis have from 2 to 9 and must of my omni mechs have 10-12 and the 25 ton Blizzard has 20! I think that one would put Blackhand into anphalactic shock.

I don't think he quite understands how hard it is to get money for new toys for the military...

Hence the reason the Blighted Sun has so many Centurions
Even if one is the heavier 10B

Honestly, I probably posted that originally on a bad day.
However, that still doesn't mean I like the idea of a mech that is that fragile running around. I like the fast speed but if thats your only defence your likely toast.
If you need that fast a fly by just us a recon plain or fast aerofighter. It has its uses in open plains combat, but still if that kind of speed is needed hover tanks are cheaper and better armed.
To me its seemed more as a niche method of using a mech to take the place of a cheaper unit in/on certain planets. But any planet with a serious movement restriction is probably going to penalise lightly armoured units anyway.
My problem more stems from my general dislike for masses of new designs, and that XL engines are used like candy on most of them. In 3050 to boot.
FYI. I do understand military minds and variants, as its in my backround.

O. K. To better explain the origions of this design it helps to know about the nation that develpoed and uses this machine. The Outland Alliance is an outer perephery realm that consists of 43 planetary systems. Technology is Developed Star League some tech has been advanced like ER lasers now avalable in small and medium others were dropped like LBX autocannon. most designs were developed in isolation based on speculation and theory with little actual combat experiance resulting in lots of small mechs to provide enough units to cover the entire realm. When it was discovered that the primary mechs were much smaller than other nations a massive rearmmament program comenced. The Road Runner was one of the designs commissioned to replace the 15 tonners that made up the ODF. That design itself was a stop gap untill more of the 30 ton Cheetahs were produced. That mech now constitutes 90% of ODF strenght.
