As many of you know, Myself and Raven worked together to create War Equipment for a personel nation called the NUSSR. Raven started the idea, and I aided in designing there equipment. Well, I am in the process of redesigning, updating, and finishing designs for this group now that I have HMPro, HMVee, HMAero, and HMBA.

Now, I wanted to get a general consensus of what everyone would consider do able for such a nation and yet still fit and not be a typical Munch Nation.

Here are the basics Myself and Raven usually went by:

Our Capital World is the planet Bryant.
We have a Union of 3 planets: Bryant, Keid, and Carver V.
We produce no Battlemechs.
We produce between 6-15 Vehicles.
We produce between 3-9 Conventional Fighters.
We produce 3-5 Battle Armor Infantry.
We produce No Energy weapons.
We produce many, but not all, Ballistic and Missile weapons.
We produce many forms of Ammunition.
We do not produce Fusion Engines.
We produce several ICE Engines.
We do not produce FF or ES or DHS.
We do produce Armor and SHS.
We will import very few componets.
We will export several componets.
We have a Military Academy and Officer University.

What do you all think? To much?

The NUSSR as you can see uses primarily conventional forces and lowtech equipment. The exceptions being Battle Armor and certain weapons such as LBX, Ultra AC, RACs, and MRMs to name a few. Other then that, we tried to keep things limited and reasonable.

I can supply a complete list of weapons once I assemble it.

What kind of nation is this? Is this supposed to be an above-average Chaos March nation, that will probably be reabsorbed by whatever Great House makes a move on it? Is it supposed to be a sort of "fortress nation" that is supposed to be not worth the trouble of conquering?

Sounds balanced to me. A lot better then some of the canon uber groups.

Does your group use mechs?

there is one semi-Regiment of BattleMechs that were taken from the Bryant Irregulars upon the new government taking over. but they are all 3025 designs with limited upgrades (for example, autocannons might be upgraded).

They hire mercenaries on occasion, but due to limited finances thanks to massive industralization, they usually can't afford more then a few small groups.

they do work closely with New Home. It is one of their principle allies.

As a rule, no. The General-Secretary of the PolitBuro is defended by, as with the rest of the capital, a single regiment of 3025 designs captured from the planet's previous owners: the Bryant Irregulars. However, military command is an underwater HQ (former Davion planet) that is defended by Wolf Submarines.

Mostly conventional forces are used (infantry, tanks, conventional fighters) as many can be produced locally, quick and easy to train on, and they can be sent, en masse, against a battlemech force.

I came up for the idea when I was on a high about developing weapon systems that could face off against a BattleMech in a head to head fight, dollar for dollar.

Well, it certainly isn't uber. It looks quite well balanced, actually.

With the production numbers, is that a number of machines or a number of types?

You mention that you produce some advanced equipment, like LBXs and RACs. Do you produce any combat electronics, beyond standard T&T/comm?

And out of curiosity: why, IC and OOC, do you produce no energy weapons?

Mostly its because I like things that go BOOM BOOM BOOM. But IC it was that energy weapon technology depends on advanced resources and manufacturing technology that was destroyed and was never rebuilt.

However, when I last checked the project. I was thinking of having them begin building medium lasers, but as an export thing.

Yes, the NUSSR is an above average Chaos March nation that does its best to make themselves so difficult to absorb that no one will try at this time. You will have to ask Raven about the Political and Economical specifics such as Government type and GNP status. However, what I do know is there is a political head who exerts tremendous power, but he is not a dictator. He is kinda a psudo-dictator with noble goals of prolonged Independence.

We have been known to engage House Liao every now and then as they probe our nation or raid our supplies. We do engage in an ongoing Intelligence War with atleast House Liao and House Marik. To my knowledge, House Davion has thus far allowed our existence because we serve to stabilize three world in the March, as a thorn in the Liao snakes side, and to save them money that would be tied up in the efforts we do by ourselves. It serves them better to leave us be atm.

Thanks, We both tried very hard to make it believable.

Number of types. Total number of vehicles of each type varies with totals for all types numbering in the regiments. Exact number of regiments unknown at this time. I\\\'d guess atleast 2 and likely easily 4 and more.

When last we discussed it, we were still up in the air about many of these. We do have TAG and AMS atleast.

Raven covered it well. Basicly, it is this same reason of complexity that limits production across the board. In addition, we use ICE Conventional units, and ICE and Energy weapons often do not play nice.

Even those advanced items we do create are created with limitations. Like with LBX ACs, I believe, we only produce the LB 10-X AC. All of our BA are constructed, with the exception of 1 or maybe 2 designs, with out Jump Jets, using ballistics/missiles, and using Prototype armor.

This not to say, Energy weapons are not used by some. We still produce Infantry Laser weapons yet this number is still few.

We gained most of the advanced knowledge that we use from House Davion and House Steiner. They supplied us with RAC technology, first generation BA, and handful of minor stuff that escapes my mind atm, most of this under contract for no sales. We are no where near the great houses or even some of the periphery nations in our level of technology, but the NUSSR has placed great importance on BA development because we stress the importance of infantry on the battlefield. That is why, with the exception of a reservists mainly, all of our Combat Infantry are atleast supplied with Power Armor or Combat Exoskeleton.

*cries at the fact he closed the window after typing 2 paragraphs.*

Anway, I wanted to ask a few questions more.

As you realize, hopefully, by now is that the NUSSR uses mostly conventional units with very few Mechs backing them up. It was an exercise in creating a nation who could still fight a good fight without Mechs. I know how scandilous of use. Anyway, do to the EXTREMELY pathetic nature of Infantry in BT. Raven and myself agreed that the NUSSR would spend vast efforts in developing BA. Every Combat Trooper would have a suit.

Our ideas were simple on the whole, but two units broke the mold. Those were our Sniper/Recon armor, which was named after the WW2 Russian Sniper and in which i forget, and our Marine BA.

My questions are on these two units.

The Sniper Armor has these basic stats:
LBA
Armor: 2+1, basic stealth [+1 med, +2 long range mod]
Move: 3g, 3j
Weapon: David Lt. Guass Rifle 1dmg, 8rng, 20shots.
Light TAG 9rng
Improved Sensor [acts as a BAP up to 2 hexes]
Camo System [+2 mod at 0mp, +1 at 1mp, and 0 at 2 or more mp]
2 Armored Gloves

It is standard practice for each member of the squad to carry a Automatic Rifle or SMG for Anti-Infantry work.

These suits are given to only the best marksmen and are very rare. They are tasked with Recon and Anti-Mech/Anti-Officer long rifle work. The squad travels mostly by foot and only uses its Jets for scalling terrain or fleeing. They will rairly involve themselves in standard combat.

The Marine BA is likely to never be made as anything but an energy version of the other BA.

The Marine Armor as i would like it:
MBA
Armor: 3+1, standard
Move: 2g, 4u
Weapon: Small Laser 3dmg, 3rng, 30shots. MWM-M.
2 Infantry Mounts [would like Pulse Laser Rifles]
Extended Life Support
1 Armored Gloves
1 Battle Vibro-Claw

These suits are given to only Marines and are very rare. They are tasked with protecting the underwater base and sea side instillations.

This armor will never be seen because as of yet the IS does not have Underwater Propulsion Units like the Clans. However, it was a great idea we had. Infact, it was standard defensive practice that during an Invasion that section of the Underwater HQ would be flooded and these suits deployed. A Torp version exists with a SRM 1 with 4 Torps.

My last question is about how everyone feels about Omni Vehicles? I am interested in using them within the NUSSR because of the flexability. I think it would be ok because unlike Omni Mechs, Omni Vehicles is less a technology and more a design princible that i feel anyone could do. What do you think?

Swappable turrets sounds nice and low-tech to me.

Which makes no sense. By the 30th century, how hard would it be to make a more powerful version of a cheap, reliable technology available today (the man-portable sub)?

Don't you hate it when that happens! The only thing worse is to spend lots of time at it, find out you were logged out during, click back, and your post is gone.

I love this idea. It seems like something the Successor States should be working one - at least for frontline units. I'm glad you're taking that path.

Quote:

My questions are on these two units.

The Sniper/Scouts light armor makes me uneasy. The stealth/camo helps, but any hit means death. I know: they're not meant to be hit. Then again, it's likely just me; I'm an armor fanatic.

Its offensive systems are very good. The weapon will serve its purpose well, and the TAG is always good.

Why bother with defenders?
Just flood most of the place if the enemy makes it in. Especially if they're not expecting it.

But regardless, I'm of the opinion that a well designed suit of armor would work rather well within the confines of a flooded facility (open water is very different); it doesn't need much more than leg power. Anything hostile that doesn't drown will not be prepared to fight underwater, and you will be.

My last question is about how everyone feels about Omni Vehicles?

I think that's also an excellent idea. OmniVehicles are indeed different from OmniMechs. In fact, I'd think that they even be easier to switch out in the field; they're closer to the ground, for starters.
