==Overview:==
The Aegis 1 man submersible is a very fast deep sea sub used to originally map
the Marians Trench of ancient Terra. Through the years it has become more
beneficial to the explorers as they try to map new worlds and learn about
various ecosystems of a newly discovered planet. Piloting a Aegis is a task
only undertaken by the most hardy of individual and is not for the faint of
heart. A clear Lexan pod houses all of the pilots controls and through a
series of OMNI like connections connect the sub to the Manta ray shaped body,
allowing the Aegis to fly through the water at quite impressive speeds. If the
pilot runs into trouble they can actually disengage the Lexan sub pod from
the body and the pilot and Lexan pod can then float up to the surface,
generally though this is only done is the sub is destroyed or damaged beyond
repair. If this happens a high powered Homing beacon allow the research vessel
or S&R units to locate them easier. A energy efficient atmosphere exchanger
and heating unit can keep the pilot alive in the sub for up to 35 hours, once
disengaged from the Aegis body. Though not heavily armored the Aegis is only
deployed in groups of 2 and if they run into a hostile fish or mammal they can
use the sub's speed to get away. The Aegis carries a pair of retractable arms
for gathering samples of rock and or aquatic life and storing them for later
analysis. A small Underwater Searchlight allow the Aegis to navigate along the
ocean floor if needed. The propulsion system is very advanced. it uses a water
intake systems that them pushes the water out through 2 propulsion vectoring
water jets. It is a take on the old Terran Thrust vectoring system pioneered
by the X-31, and the more recent Caterpillar propulsion systems used by many
of the old subs, when aquatic warfare was common, during the 26th century..
