Okay beyond being a short range fighter or a prefect canidate for Solaris 7 what is so nightmarish here?

Even then its not that bad.... no.... I've seen worse. Vampire posted a battlemech called the Vampire i think..
THAT WAS A NIGHTMARE!
I think the only concievable way to fight it was to predict where it would be at some point and then fill that area with artillery.

LAMs die easily enough if you use real fighters.

You must carry three different ammo loads and buy three different sets of spare parts. When you use one type launcher and lose some during the fight you can still let the others deplete the ammo carried for the lost weapons. Of course that loosing four launchers before you die is quite difficult (maybe the arm mounted SRMs), but ...
And if you want to let the player die rolling than use only sSRM-2s
