You're missing the point of the clan mentality. Their combats are very short and fierce affairs. One of the reasons they lost on Tukkayid and in the Combine is because they were forced to fight a prolonged engagement. Something they are not used to nor were they prepared for. They bring basically enough parts to repair their units after one engagement so they aren't too badly weakened to defend what they've won in case another clan group attacks before reinforcements arrive. The concept of campaign wars is something they are attempting to learn. The Inner Sphere forces have about 300 years of experience in this theater, while the clans have....how long they been here?

A most accurate summery i would say. I would give exception to the Wolf Clan though. Ulric was as crafty as the Fox and twice as brilliant.

I don't know if this applies to DropShip space, but the text also mentions ordering supplies as needed, but usually once per month, so "the rest" is probably carried separately and if clan unit gets cut off from supply line ...

I would guess that this is for line-duty and not for garrison or stocks and cargo.

Yup, and it would explain clan supply problems during the campaign to conquer Terra. I can imagine that SJs entered the sphere with supplies equal to (50t * number of mechs bid for each planet * number of planets intended to conquer in first wave) + 1 (if anyone tried to counterattack)
Now I would like to know how much do they carry to mission on DS (this topic is about that, isn't it?)
I think that 50 t limit may be true even for fighters during attack campaign, because most clans consider aerospace assets secondary and bigger ships are usually nonmilitary targets.

I've usually just calculated the number of spares I'd need for the operation, add an arbitrary ammount, and then carry it behind me.
Course, usually didn't have more than a lance to work with, so cross-country travel got difficult (ie, without a dropship, it's using trucks or dragging it).
As such, I've usually gone with what a mech could carry (which I think was 25% of Mech-weight to 100%). Of course, I have to resupply often, maybe every other engagement.
Figure an average mech is 50 tons, and an average campaign is 8 missions, depending on what you need and the importance of speed, refitting every other mission: 50/4=12.5*(8/2)=50. 50*4=200
So, 50-200 tons of equipment on average. Lighter mechs will need less, heavier mechs will need more. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Another point for the clan mindset. They could very well have the 200 tons per mech. Just instead of repair parts they are 50 tons of repair parts and 150 tons of weapons pods. That would make more sense to me.
