For some reason, my one d20 has always seemed biased towards the lower numbers. In the years I've had it (about eight or nine years) it's come up with the lower numbers more often than not.
Well, after last night's session I've made the decision to go ahead and get a new d20. Why? Thanks to said d20's tendency to roll low, my character kept fumbling things that he realistically should have done flawlessly.
Thing is, I noted that my d4 might also have a bias to it. Both my d20 and my d4 were from the same set.
Question - given that I have two die from the same set that have a bias, should I replace the entire set or should I just replace those two?
Thanks.

If the rest of dice works well than why? Unless you need to have all dice of the same color of course

Having problems with your rolls, eh? A metal file can fix that right-quick. }

I bought some crystal dice and the d20 out of that set rolls like a demon, my DMs have nicknamed it "the d20 from hell" because of it's habit of criting at just the right time to kill off a planned Villian before he can make his escape from his first appearance... the rest of that set on the other hand rolls like crap, the d8 and d6 most of all.

At one point, I had a program for the computer that would tell you if your dice were doing funky things.
You would roll the dice, punch in the number, lather, rinse, repeat. The more you rolled, the more accurate the results.
Unfortunately, the program was written almost 20 years ago for the all-powerful C-64.

Just got back from the comics shop.
I picked up two new d20s - a clear yellow and an oversized clear red. I also grabed a new d4 which is sparkling yellow.

If you've "noticed it", odds are you've not rolled either enough times for a fair sample. If the die is from one of the "normal" dice companies (Chessex, The Armory, etc) the die is in all likelihood fine.
And you wouldn't be thinking of using different a different die if the d20 rolled high, would you?

And you'd need at least 1,000 rolls (10,000 would be better) to show any irregularities.
Plus that formula wouldn't take into account a die "dropped" vs "rolled"

Actually, if I was asked to use a different die then I would. In fact, I've got a number of die that I have to get approved for tourny use due to different quirks they have.

I've been gaming since before you were born and I've never heard of getting dice "approved for tourny (sic) use"....as someone that may be the worst die roller on the planet I think you may need to get out a little more often.

I've found that my rolls greatly improve when I roll on a surface that allows the die to bounce around more.
Instaed of new dice, try a new table
Sadly my GM has a table to just doesn't seem to have the surface needed for good die roll.

Included in my collection:
1 * Steel Viper d6 (which FASA did indeed ban)
3 * skull & crossbones d6 (skull & crossbones symbol on the 1)
2 * double-dice (dirk d6 inside a translucent plastic d6)

All of which aren't true D6's...

Shake them up in a paper or plastic cup before rolling...that way it's already rolling around freely before you release it.

You've all heard of diceless roleplaying no doubt.
I have decided (because my d6s abandon me at conventions) to play BattleTech.....diceless. That is to say for me alone. You would all still have to roll. I however, will just arbitrarily decide whether I hit or not, crit or not, shutdown or not......you get the picture.
It will really make the game much more fun for all of us. Well.....at least me. I promise not to (cough, cough) play unfairly or have any bias towards my forces. Really you can trust me.
And just to make it "fair" for all you "doubters" and "whiners", I will promise to only use level one mechs...okay....will that make you happy?!
