This is a match-up that I'm looking at.

Party:
#1 - Savannah Master. Both pilot and player are green.
#2 - 2D Commando. Both pilot and player are green.
#3 - 3025 Urbanmech. Regular NPC.

OPFOR:
#1 - 3026 Vedette. Green crew.

Situation:While on a patrol, the party stumbles across a bandit Vedette that has had a breakdown. The Vedette is able to rotate its turret and fire, but it cannot move or change its facing.

The crew of the tank is green; if confronted, they will attack instead of surrendering.

The party's current tactic is to have the Savannah Master scout. The Commando then closes for the kill while the Urbanmech provides fire support.

Effect on campaign:
(1). If the crew is taken alive, then a succesful interrogation will lead to them revealing the location of their outpost. The party will then be assigned to recon said outpost in advance of a strike team.
(2). The Vedette is carrying civilian hostages taken during the last raid; these hostages have been bound and are thus unable to alert the party to their presence. If the hostages are recovered alive, then the party will be rewarded. When I pulled the Vedette up on HMPro, it listed an extra half ton where they could be held.

How does this sound? Too hard? Too easy?

Thanks.

The Vedette dies if it tries to fight. So does the crew and the hostages. Your players gain nothing, and neither does your campaign.

How about an escaped hostage wandering about near the Vedette? A young child perhaps? The bandits didn't worry too much about the bonds as the tank was moving anyway, and the kid managed to squirm free. Now that the tank's broken down they have other things to think about. They haven't noticed a small child slipping out the bottom escape hatch yet...

Interesting concept, but try using a tank with a harder punch...an AC/10 might be ideal.

Since they're green and I'm not in the mood to be flipping pages all session, I'll be playing a little fast & loose with the rules.

If the party can destroy one of the locations on the tank (preferrably the turret itself) then I'll say that everyone on board survives. Likewise, if the tank runs out of ammo or the AC/5 is destroyed then I'll have the crew surrender.

If that thing happens to take a critical hit the crew is 50% likely to die. But as GM you can always fudge the roll if you wish.

I don't know about fair...but it'd be a close enough fight that it's not an obvious outcome. You'd have to find a way to have the prisoners survive. But hey if you're GM you make the rules. I love running the game

This is going to depend on your players. If they are smart they will pincer it with the savanna master and the commando, with the tank broken down and not moving. I would make it a fuse problem so it looks like they are broken down. I would also mabey make it so the tank was working and if it proves to be to much of a challenge give it a engine problem that makes it cut or for a round or 2. I think Immobile is just to easy though.

Bandit tanks are often neglected, so with that in mind this is how i would handle it... yes the tank change it's facing but only in one direction (one tread is locked up), the Captives are held in an Ammo Bin that's had its Munitions Used (Bandit tactic), and aren't subject to the Crew-Kill critical hit.

A green tank crew would surrender, but since their bandits, they would fight till they believe themselve allready caught, and hands sticking out of a partialy closed ammo bin would allert someone that there are captives.

does this help?

Went over to a friend's house to play.

Our gaming area is inside his garage. It's got some lumber and car parts left over from when it was actually used as a garage, but otherwise it's been cleared out. It now has our table, some chairs, and a nice hole in one of the doors.

About 45 minutes into the session we start hearing these strange noises. After moving the lumber, we discovered that there was a stray cat and its kittens living in its garage. As the stray demonstrated, she's been getting in and out through the hole in the door. So we quickly turned off the lights, shut the door, and went to the other side of the house.

Anyway.....

I threw the match at them tonight. They were moving too fast, and so they left the Urbanmech behind.

The Commando got right next to the Vedette and started blasting away. The player also started kicking the tank. The first two kicks were succesful, but the player rolled a '3' for his third one; thankfully, he managed to stay upright. Meanwhile, the Savannah Master was sniping at the flank.

They scored three crits (two to the right side, one to the front) but didn't roll a critical. As such, both crew and hostages survived.
