A dropship designed and marketed for the small-unit merc force. A single 'mech lance, a mixed-armor company, and four platoons of regular infantry all self-contained inside a mobile fortress.

Notes:

The unit organization you had was akward for me. The IS is based around the 4 x 3 organization. So I droped your platoons to 3 to form a infantry company and dropped 4 light tanks to form a mixed calvary company. I also added a bay to seperate unit types and upped the doors so you can quickly deploy and retreve units.

I reconfigured the weapons to a more energy based configuration and exploited/mini-maxed the weapons for the best weight to damage for the intended job. I also upped the heatsinks to 16 short of max.

As a merc vessel, i felt your crew was to small and your support points to low. I upped the crew, doubled the gunners [i now like to have 2x min], and removed the marines. I felt marines were just excess weight because this is an infantry hauler. I also changed your escape systems to 50 percent max plus 0 or 1 to max # even. This resulted in 100 percent support.

Adjusted food and fuel to 90 days +- 1 day.

Adjusted spare parts to 2 percent. You need to insure you have enough spares as a merc.

Added 200 tons to cargo to make it 400 tons. As a merc, i feel you need alot more space but 400 is good when compared to cannon vessels.

I then optimized your SI, armor, and engine.

I did everything I could to maximize the ship. My changes are minor and only build upon your great base design. Good Job.

I can see a company of tanks to a lance of 'mechs being a good combined arms ratio. Remember that some of those vehicles won't be war fighters, but will be things like salvage trucks, mobile HQs, MASH units, and J-27s. After all, you need space in the dropship for support units too.

That thought had occurred to me for the heavy vehicle bays. Things like 'mech haulers, salvage tracks, and the ever-present ammo haulers that keep a merc unit running. Of course if you're strapped for space, you can crate them up and stow them in the cargo bay...

Cargo bay storage can be useful in some cases, like if you're traveling between two friendly garrisons, but for combat ops, you're going to want to roll at least some support right out, or else your advance can stall easily when your ammo goes.
