I was thinking the same thing when I read through the book. Mostly it just stuck out like a sore thumb. I remember reading it, the stopped.. "what was that?" and read back. I was almost thinking that the proof reader missed it, until I found another example.

I am far from being a prude, but it seemed out of place.

Maybe it is a by product of having kids.

As a rule, I keep cursing to a minimum in public on the grounds that, unless the situation really calls for a colorful metaphore, it shouldn't be inflicted on an inocent bystander.

Among friends, it's a little looser rule, unless the girls are present (yes, we're that kind of people), but still a curse needs a reason.

Now, in writing fiction, rules for cursing are up to the author. They can set the mood, establish a character, or just because the author so feels the urrge.

But in a sourcebook, curses have no place. A sourcebook is a professional book, cursing has no place in professional language and therefore should not appear in professional writing. You would't curse in an academic paper or a magazine article or a contract. Likewise, there's no reason to do so here. That isn't prudery, that's professionalism.

The real question is why do some have to be boorish, rude, vile, cruel, diarrhea-mouth spouting crass, brash, and utterly disrespectful loudmouths?

And don't give me that poor excuse " The 1st amendment allows us....wah wah wah".

Perhaps when our culture can grow up a little, by teaching the adults behaving like spoiled children some respect for others, then we won't have a need for it.

And perhaps some of the "so many problems" you allude to would get fixed.

Those "Problems" have to do with what people think of each other not how they speak. I know its that way with the Men and Women i work with, they can be some of the crudest foul mouthed people on the planet. Ive heard stuff that made me go "holyshit i cant beleive you just said that." And everyday these are the same people that go out and save other peoples live. So Horhiro dont judge a book by its cover, oh and if parents punished their children when they acted like spoiled brats they wouldnt grow up to be spoiled adults.

Actually as an aspiring Psychologist [2 years for BA with Psy and 4 years for MA] I would like to say something on this point:

Early Childhood Development has been, is, and will be one of the most debated, contested, and re-examined field of psychology. What we thought was best 20 years ago is different then today and new studies change everything at least every decade. Modern studies have shown that a kids development is not only in the hands of the parent but also genetics and peer groups. How one kids responds to a form of discipline or reward is different then another. Now mind you, I am not saying that parents have no control or influence. I am simply saying that their are a lot of factors that could be effecting why someone grows up to be spoiled. Could be poor parenting, genetic disposition, or even a mental disorder. As you said, don't judge a book by its cover.
