Anyone rememebr the MNA magazine, MECH? Volume 2 issue8 fourth quarter 1992 had a showcase for the Trailblazer 95 ton vehicle, produced by an undisclosed manufaturer in the Draconis Combine
XL engine
cruise 3
flank 5
heatsinks 10 ( does not state double or not so I am going with single)
7 tons standard armor
25 armor points on each location. weapons are all turret mounted and consist of 4 LB10-X AC and a Large Pulse Laser.
4 tons of ammo and case are located in the body.
I was considering switching out the LB cannons for Ultra 5's. would free up 8 tons. I increase the armor to 10 tons, and add 5 more tons of ammo(raising the total to 9 tons, or 180 rounds) to keep the Ultra cannons from running dry too quickly. armor is increased to 36 points all around except the rear, which is 35. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

Yes I recall seeing it...
On a side note you may want to pickup a copy of HMPro, Vee, Lite and Aero as well as BA, these will allow you make the mechs and vehicles etc...and have the text file to past along with your fluff all on an easy to use computer program.

Vees can use only standard heat sinks, that's why the HS choice wasn't discussed in fluff.
The armor on original is too light for my taste. With huge XL engine comes cost that needs to be protected. Heavy guns look okay, but they can last only ten rounds... maybe that's the right amount, because this vee may die quickly.
Your mod seems fine to me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Constructed by an engineering team for the Draconis Combine, the
Trailblazer was developed as an emergency air defense battery that could
defend major Combine cities from Clan aerospace attack while new BattleMechs
were developed.
The huge vehicle relied on four LB 10-X class autocannon and a large
pulse laser, mounted as a single rotating cannon, to hit enemy fighters with
an incredible volume of fire, which was made more deadly by the Garret D2J
tracking system. This system, seen on the Rifleman anti-aircraft BattleMech,
differed in the antenna was protected by a radome mounted atop the turret,
giving a small amount of survivability to the equipment during an attack.
By 3055, newer BattleMechs had largely taken over the Trailblazer's
duties, and the remaining tanks were placed with strategic garrison units or
sold. Many are still In service with the DCMS and mercenary units throughout
the Inner Sphere.

That's the one! The ammo concern for my rework is why I upped the amount to 180 rounds total. lets see, 4 cannons, at double rate of fire, with 180 rounds to pull from.... I get 22 shots off, with 4 rounds remaining before the tank runs dry. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

Not for the LBX. read the original post. I removed the LB cannons, and reoplaced them with 4 Ultra 5's. Was able to add armor and more ammo. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

The question becomes do you have the tonnage to do the conversion?

Absolutley. Removing the LBX cannons and ammo frees up enough tonnage to replace them easiily with Ultra AC/5 cannons, and plenty of ammo to keep em firing. It also allows me to beef up the armor a bit as well. Raises the ammo tonnage from 4 to 9. 10 tons of ferro armor insteead of the original 7. I feel this makes the machine a bit more dangerous to other vehicles, and lighter mechs as well. Most likely, it would not perform as well as the original in the mission profile of anit air support. _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

UACs can be decent AAA weapons.

Yes, with AT 2 stats it's clear.
LB 10-X heat: 2; damage: 10/6 (with cluster); range: medium.
UAC/5 heat: 1/2; damage: 5/7; range: long.
The only problem with UACs can start if you roll a few 2s

Of course you can miss. What do you think that happens when you roll 13?
