What was the absolute worst ration menu you've ever had, and what nation's military did it come from?
Thanks.
For something I'm writing, I'm having it that a soldier is introducing his fiance and the fiance's little sister to the concept of MREs. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." USNR-
MRE-
Dehydrated Beef pattie. It has been almost 20 years and I can still imagine the taste and wretch. The pork was just a little better.
Maple Walnut fruit cake was the best. I did not like the gorilla cookie and could trade for lots of stuff.
AWAD- Who has not had an MRE is 15 years.

Up here in Canada, in the early '90s we had an IMP (Individual Meal Pack - or I - might - puke!) that was a Ham Omelete. We called it lung in a bag. It was just a solid chunk of egg-type substance that smelled like death... and created fear in the hearts of the most battle-hardened soldiers. It didn't last too long, thank God. _________________ War is God's way of teaching geography.

Speaking as an Army Brat who's eaten his share of K-rats, C-rats, and MREs...
I've never disliked any of them. I prefered the C-rations (canned rations, you're general purpose spam-on-rye kinda thing) when we went camping. We could get whole boxes of Bomber-crew C-rats from the PX at the local AFB (Rein-Main, Chevres, or Whiteman-and I know my spelling of the first two is miserable).
Now, my MRE knowledge is limited to the beef-patty and the lasagna. But my only complaint with the MRE is that the package is really hard to open without a knife, but I wasn't allowed to bring a sharp object with me to tour the NBC training camp at Leonard Wood (for the good reason that they didn't want sharp objects close to the clothing the people would wear when they trained with live VX and Sarin)
