BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Shadow Hawk SDH-TC2H
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 3, Modified design
Mass: 55 tons
Chassis: Lang T1 Standard
Power Plant: 275 Core Tek Fusion
Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h
Jump Jets: 5 Pitban LFT-50 Standard Jump Jets
Jump Capacity: 150 meters
Armor Type: Maximillian 43 Standard
Armament:
2 Medium Lasers
1 LRM 5
1 Light AC/5
1 SRM 4
Manufacturer: Vandenberg mechanized Industries
Location: New Vandenberg (TC)
Communications System: O/P 300 COMSET
Targeting & Tracking System: O/P 2000A
Overview:
Taurians needed a true medium weight Mech that had some speed to act as fact attack or a reserve force to throw into the fray. The standard Shadowhawk was a Jack of all Trades and did not meet the needs. But the engineers Vandenberg mechanized Industries worked and found they could make the Jack of all Trades into a mid range brawler.
Capabilities:
By using the lighter shorter range AC they were able to upgrade the SRM and add another medium laser. Finally the jump capability was increased to a full 150 meters.
The SDH-TC2H has proved itself as a capable attack Mech. The improvements give it a spread out damage pattern but greatly increase the overall damage. Movement also allows to close quicker. Urban terrain and rough terrain seems to be were it excels. In open terrain the LRM is a harassing weapon only. The reduction in range on the AC is not huge but enough it can not answer incoming LRM until it is within 450 meters.
Maintenance is very easy since 90% of the parts are identical with the original SDH-2H base model. Still very ammo dependant but 2 medium lasers still give it bite when ammo is depleted. Some still consider it a walking bomb but the ammo is buried amongst other systems in an effort to protect the ammo.
Battle History:
Variants:
With new technology entering the Concordant there has been talk of adding CASE and reducing the armor and using FerroFiberous..
Deployment
35% of the Shadowhawk production of the Taurians is of the TC2H variety. Most of them are used in the TOE of the Taurian Corp. Then second on the list is the Magistracy. Mercenaries and the Outworlds have a few in their inventory also.

Solid design with light firepower at range and ... well moderate at short range. It doesn't look special, but it will last if you install the CASE (Taurians have it since 3065) or FF armor (access since 3045!). _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

A solid design to stand next to our Griffins and Marshalls. SD is right about the FF. I would swap that. We also have the sublet contract from the CC to produce the SHD-7M, though I have never found that we have a new production line to make it anywhere. It is supposed to be constructed on Taurus, but who knows for sure.

I am starting this as a 3030 design. So a 3058 or later could utilize the FF and CASE. Then it becomes more solid and "special."
I GM a game that theyear is 3085 and clans never showed up. So new Tech exsists but is not so prevelent. So the push to upgrade this would not be so important.
AWAD- the original SH is so cool looking but a POS

I like this. Though I would rather see the light ac5 replaced with a large laser, but that is me. It would require heat management with single heatsinks. But would give it a longer battlefield life, by cutting some f the ammo dependency.
And I agree I love the look of the shadowhawk. Its been one of my favorites for a long time. But I do agree it wasnt a very good design. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". This isn't that bad...if you hit with a good spread of missiles you can actually force knockdown rolls at short range. I like the use of L3 tech without going overboard too. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

Except that LAC!!
It is tournament legal since Total Warfare but on the other side there aren't levels anymore! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Level 1 = succession wars technology
Level 2 = all tournament legal technology
Level 3 = optional thingies
Since the LACs are now tournament legal, they should be considered level 2 IMO. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Well the new system is more by era. So the LAC5 is tournament legal, but until the Tech Manual comes out no idea what era it will be avaiable.
I have allowed LAC for the longest time as standard equipment. Another way to save the AC from the discard junk heap of so many Mechs.
Part of hte reason I relased this design. Two other Mechs I redid some time ago and made them more viable were the Clint and Vulcan. Mainly did it for smaller and more manuverable mechs.
AWAD- How many Light Mechs in 3025 carried a AC of any kind?

There are no more levels. The only relevant classifications are Tournament Legal or Advanced. There is an Availability Rating now which dictates when certain equipment is available. But no more level 1, 2 or 3 stuff. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

As soon as the LAC was introduced we used it for our "Deep Periphery Mechs"!
That is : ICE all the way!

I've thought of the 3025 40tonners as a sort of "heavy light" _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Thinking in 3025 terms, medium weres the most commonly fielded units, so in a way they almost were light-end heavies. I hate the way people use assaults. Assaults aren't fun to play. You walk up and shoot. Generally poor maneuverability. That's why I like fast lights and mediums. Many more possibilities as to strategy. Albeit at a cost of firepower. But I've killed many a mech using a Wraith. It just takes longer. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Because of the rather light armor and high speed I`ve seen them more as lights than as mediums like SHD, WVR or GRF.
Even though I never liked 40 tonners like Cicada or Hermes II I've used the Clint and especially the Assassin often and with good success despite the low armor and because of the speed and JJ's!
If I'm playing with my cousin at my side I'll take mostly lights and fast mediums while my cousin takes the heavies and assaults (he's more from the "crawling and blasting"-side! )! It was a good combination! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!'
