It's estimated that over 85% of lung cancer is caused by smoking...how that relates to the percentage you ask for I'm not sure. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

As smoking multiplies the chance of getting lung cancer I'll go with the 80+! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Like chihawk sated. it is ESTIMATED. No one can really pinpoint the numbers as it is also about the person's lifestyle, genes, environment, etc...
I find it amusing to see some people take estimates and educated guesses to base an entire ad campaign on. Let alone some people verbally and physically attacking other people over these same statistics. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I'm doing a Benefit Cost Analysis class right now and we use the smoking statistics a lot because they are so flexible. The variance and range on all these things is pretty large (definitely significant, and on the upper sides, but very flexible). Depending on which number you use, and what you value life and health at, smoking regulations can come out on all ends of the BCA.
This also accounts for the "depends on whose numbers you use" phenomenon, where some studies find smoking to be glaringly harmful, and others find it to be a mild social annoyance.
That said, I have no idea what number you have up your sleave. The numbers quioed to me have never broken 70%, but I've seen them as low as 30%.
