|

These are some ideas I had for scenarios that all take place outside of the cockpit. I'd like to see what everyone thinks of these.
1. For the period of a few days, the party hears noises in the bushes outside of their bunk house. If a player chooses to investigate, they'll discover that a stray cat has had her kittens and is using the bushes as her nest. The party must now decide what to do.
2. There's a big social event, and the brass have decided some of the soldiers will be attending in order to "mingle" with the local civilian elites. As the party is not assigned for duty that night, they and one (or more) of their superiors will have to attend.
3. After a prolonged period in the field, the party returns back to base. They're ordered to clean up and go visit the barber, as they smell and are unkempt. The unit's barber is out sick, so the party has to visit a civilian one. Little do they know that it's payday for the place and so it is now a magnet for criminals.
4. An NPC embarasses one (or more) of the PCs by showing that they have more knowledge in a particular area; this can be as simple as flaunting their knowledge of a language the PCs do not know. If the PCs want to get even, they will have to not only learn that skill but learn it to a higher degree of proficiency. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." I think the second set up has the most potential. Not every battleground is easily identifiable as such. The players could get drawn into situations dealing with everything from the weather to the current political clime. If the players are mercs, and some of those elites happen to have the pull, insulting the wrong person could lead to some lean times for the group. _________________ Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

All good ideas. Many times you just have to set up the PCs and let them screw it up and mix it up more, many times you are just trying to keep the circus reigned in.
#4- What should be more critical is the embarrassment will affect their promotion or make the local populace no longer respect the unit or PCs. Making a simple night off more difficult and supplies and info could get just a little harder.
#1- The cat has some rare local disease that it bites the PC and will not kill him but cause him some sort of embarrassing discomfort. Now they have to find who can help and convince them to do so. The cure could be worse than the sickness.
A new idea is the hard decision of who to save. Some sort of natural disaster in which the PCs are far from home and Mechs. They have to assist with the locals since the police where all but destroyed. Looting, rioting, and the likes. So make it they may have to kill to maintain order, even a youth. Also determining to organize a rescue of the hospital or the school.
AWAD- Always give them choices but limit the direction

I can only think of one thing to say,
"Aaaawwwwwww!"
So where do you keep your kittens in the cockpit?
