==Overview:==
Due to negative publcity generated by false reports concerning the mech's
capabilities, Defiance Industries was left in a severe predicament. They had
invested a considerable sum of money into the Battle Hawk, and it looked like
they wouldn't get most of it back.
Desperate to solve the situation, they found themselves listening to a
designer who had been a critic of the concept. Although he thought the mech
did well enough, he argued that the unit could achieve the same function for
much cheaper if the company would be willing to scale back on some of the
tech.
The Ferro armor and XL engine have been dropped, and instead endo steel
structure has been used. This has freed up the mech's internal space, and
lowered the cost of the unit significantly. CASE has also been added to the
left torso for the purpose of ammo protection, and both the Streak 2 and one
of the heat sinks have been dropped.
It is believed that this newer, cheaper price will help attract customers that
were turned off by the bad publicity.

Two versions of his design have been created.
The K305A comes close to the original design, in that it uses a standard SRM
instead of the Streak.
The K306 is more radical in that it replaces the pulse lasers with a PPC and
the SRM launcher with a medium laser. This version is intended to provide fire
support for the 305As.

A nice mod that keeps the abilities of the original design while removing the dangerous (and expensive) XL.
Using an XL in a light mech just running 5/8 is a wast and irresponsible in my eyes! The 11th DHS was without any use too!

Not a bad mod, but the K306 already exists in TRO 3055 Upgrades (p.14, the distribution doesn't have to be the same as that in RSs, which I don't have). It seems that 306 is for light engine line.

Funny you should post this, This is my verison for my world I posted about 1 month ago. I gave the PCs the chance to make a viable refit and instead they made a new Mech, which was cost prohibitive. At one point BatleHawks were buy 3 get one free, a full lance, or 15% off book price. They were no longer being manufactured. FLuff is included.

Overview:
Defiance Industries In conjunction with Wolf's Dragoons and Blackstone Industries designed a refit kit for the much maligned, though deservedly, Battlehawk.
The design was done to convert to a garrison Mech that had some multi functional role. Speed was considered to be its weak point for a 30 ton Mech. It needed more long range punch.
The 3 MPL were replaced with 1 ERPPC. This is the primary weapon and main weapon all in one. 3 RL10s were put in place of the SSR2. This was done to give it a heavy punch at close range. Since it was designed to more garrison and defense missions they were not considered a drawback. Finally a SPL was added to anti infantry and to target fast light Mechs in tight quarters.
The refit is considered to be of moderate
difficulty but tight quarters and space make it tough.
Capabilities:
Deployment
The refit kit was just announced. But before the announcement Blackstone and Defiance purchased about 80% of the available Mechs from the open market. The massive deals to buy Battlehawks also dried up.
The kit itself and the parts are being sold but Blackstone for Mercs and Defiance for Houses have offered to dispatch Techs and the parts to do the refit. Cost is higher but it is guaranteed work.
Wolf's Dragoons have a Lance as a guard unit on Outreach and Defiance has done the same on Hesperus. A few poor Mech units on Galatea have taken advantage to either upgrade and sell or get a more viable Mech onto the field. It is believed 10 such refits have been done.

Thing is, I don't have the Upgrades manual.
