BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED
Type/Model: Sturmtiger
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3060
Config: Tracked Vehicle
Rules: Level 3, Standard design
Mass: 45 tons
Power Plant: 180 GM Fusion
Cruise Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Armor Type: Hvy Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
1 Sniper Artillery
2 Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: (Unknown)
Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: (Unknown)
Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Sturmtiger was created to fulfill what was percieved to be a need among
the Lyran military: a light-end artillery piece. A number of military
commanders had been demanding such an item, as their towed Thumper cannons
were often ineffective and heavier self-propelled pieces couldn't keep pace
with the rest of the unit.
The Sturmtiger itself is a blocky tank, due in part to its useage of heavy
ferro fibrous armor. The decision was made to use this armor so that the tank
would not be quite so vulnerable in the event that battle armor or other such
units managed to make it back and attack the vehicle.
In the center of the chassis is a Sniper cannon and two tons of ammo, allowing
the tank to continuously fire for just over three minutes without running dry.
Its position in the center means that it has the bulk of the armor wrapped
around it.
A pair of medium lasers is mounted in a turret located on top of the chassis.
Medium lasers are a good multi-purpose weapon, and so will allow the tank to
defend itself.
==Variants:==
It's been proposed that one of the medium lasers be dropped in favor of a
flamer, allowing the tank to deal with infantry in the event that such units
show up.
==Deployment==
The Sturmtiger is being issued to units on the border with the Jade Falcons
and in the Chaos March; other units who have requested lighter self-propelled
units will get them later.

The thing with the real-life Sturmtigers was that they were intended as light artillery pieces.
Sturmtigers were Tigers that (for whatever reason) had their turrets removed and replaced with a single artillery piece. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Sturmtiger is really an armored mortar on tracks. It didn't need any turret simply because it wasn't meant to be used in situation where it would need it. I would try to use a snub-nose Long Tom from Maximum Tech for this., but since the weapon was a 380 mm rotation stabilized missile with range around 5 kilometers the Arrow IV or the Thunderbolts may work as well. I chose the Snub-nose artillery piece because the original purpose of the Sturmtiger was to fight in cities, destroying enemy fortifications, so the UAC or HGR would be also a good choice, but anything else than artillery grade weapons lack the explosive effects I would like to keep.
I wouldn't call this LIGHT artillery piece

Hence why I went with the Tbolt launchers...either way though Karken's version or mine would be a royal pain for anyone running into them...
The turret could be something the new makers wanted and thus got, you know the better tech to build things, lighter materials, engine to power ratios etc... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

The original manufacurers probably preferred to level a few blocks of houses rather than engaging the fortification head on. That's why there is no turret included. With indirect fire rues the T-bolts and Arrows and perhaps Snub-Nose guns wouldn't need the turret, but in case of other weapons the turret should be included. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

One of the old Future Wars magazines that I had introduced an AC50 as a lvl1 piece of equipment - the cons definitely kept the pros in balance (weight something like 23 tons, range of 6). It was way too inefficient to be mounted in a mech, but I always pictured it being at home in a tank akin to the Sturmtiger.... _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Too short ranged for that IMO. How long do you think that a tank will endure the fire of enemy bunker before it can get in range? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Sounds like that would be a ambush tank. Place a few of thoes in a city or hidden in woods, in a nice cross fire patter. wait for enemy mechs and enjoy. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". This was one of the many i constructed after my WW II german tank handbook.
All the way from Panzer I to Panzer "Maus".
I tried to build them all with as much lowtech as possible _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!'
