Okay question for the folks here:
You need to build a medium mech, level 1 tech is all you have, you have a choice, AC10 with 2 tons of ammo (14 tons) or 2 LRM15s with 2 tons ammo (16 tons) which would you go with and why? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

I'd go AC/10. A little lighter. Less heat. More ammo. More punch to one location. No minimum. A slightly smaller range, but that shouldn't be an issue in a medium mech as you should have maneuverability to close quicker. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Two questions:
1.) What speed and how much armour? As much as I want or there are limits?

Armor is around 70% coverage. Speed would be 4/6.

I would probably pick the AC and some supporting weapons because the result looks like a good brawler. With the LRMs there would be no improvement over the Trebuchet and the 'Mech would be slower... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

With 4/6/0 speed and 70% armor I would probably go with the LRM's. The armor is a bit thin for fighting in close unless softened up by a few fairly powerful LRM salvos. By the time the armor is breached, the ammo should be gone, and the mech can use ML's to cover itself at close range without any heat problems or explosion worries.
And the Trebuchet is a nice mech- copying it isn't a bad thing.

The performance of these two weapons will be situational, but overall, I'll take the LRMs. Better damage (although you do pay for it in heat), more chances for critical hits, and better range give the LRMs the edge. _________________ "The enemy's gate is down."

I agree with Mud. The range is huge. The lack of punch to one location but hopefully you will have scrapped enough armor off when it gets close your other weapons finish it off. Or you have friends.
AWAD- LRM needs more range

I to would go with the LRMs. I think that the range advantage is solid, and you can do other things to distinguish this mech from the Trebuchet.
What off hand, I don't know. Need to get home to do that.

That choice heavily depends on the other stats of the Mech. Speed, armor, supporting weapons.

I would go with the LRM package. At 4/6 speed it will need some distance to keep from being killed outright. If it was a bit quicker I would go for the AC10 pairing.
