I've been thinking.
In each unit a character could be in there are a number of quirks that can define the unit as a whole, or at least people in the unit who characters might interact with.
So why not create a random chart to help determine quirks? 8)
Feel free to add to any chart you feel like.
Unit: 1. Someone assigned to the unit gets killed in action every d6 missions; this is so consistent that the unit has developed a bad reputation.
2. The unit has an unusual nickname due to an incident that happened so long ago no one even remembers the exact details. The few surviving stories are all blown well out of proportion.
3. The unit is among the last of the units to be given supplies. While this may make for a shortage of mundane items (such as boots or toothbrushes), they are usually the first to receive any new toys from research & development.
Head Honchos: 1. The top person feels that caffeine does more harm than good. As such, all coffee-makers in the unit's base facilities have been replaced with mechanisms that dispense vegetable broth.
2. The senior NCO is rather opposed to action films because he feels that they encourage soldiers to take unnecessary risks and get so much wrong. Woe be to any soldier he catches watching one.
Unit Members: 1. The company clerk is only in the military because his daddy felt that his preferred career path (such as interior decorator or hairdresser) wasn't sufficiently "macho." The clerk is very sensitive about this, and will often deliberately foul a person's requisitions in rather embarrassing ways should he be teased about it.
2. The unit communications guy is completely tone-deaf, yet this doesn't stop him from singing along with his favorite songs... often over the comm channels.
3. The unit cook wanted to be a chemist, but was ejected from college due to causing too many lab accidents. This hasn't stopped him from experimenting, however. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
