Well, I lost my custody case. And the judge is only allowing me supervised visitation with my daughter. And are requiring I pay through the nose for it, despite still being unemployed (15 months or so now). I also lost my home a few months ago. I've been imposing on various friends, but my tenure of goodwill is fast running out. It looks like I'll be staying in a homeless shelter in Grand Rapids, MI soon. I'll have access to the internet still, so I won't be completely disappearing (I love public libraries), however I intend to spend most of my days walking the streets looking for employment.
Thank you again to all who have generously given their support here at the B&G.
Edit:
Forgot to mention that since I cannot afford the visitation fees I have not seen my daughter since earlier this year. I can't remember now if it was in March or April that I saw her last. It seems like years. _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'

Sorry to hear this. If I can suggest it, you may want to look into MANPOWER or one of the other temp agencies, they might be able to help you out.
I have not been back to GR in a while, like 3 to four years now, so I am not sure what all is still around, but you may want to also try one of the retail chains like Walmart or Target. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Yeah, I know GR Pretty well. As for the temp agencies, most (including Manpower) don't accept felons anymore. And I still have that felony conviction from when I was a teen. It sucks, it really does heh. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be in such dire straights. I've considered trying to get a job as a troubled youth adviser since I've "been there", but most of those jobs require degrees. Ugh. Does GR have any sort of civil resource to assist job-seekers?
If so, then you may wish to pay them a visit. They should be able to help you with your job search, and might even have ideas as to how you can work around what you've mentioned.
You might also wish to swing by whatever churches are active in the city; odds are at least one of them has a social program in place to help people in your shoes get back on their feet. This may even include help in locating work.
Additionally, I'm on a handful of paid survey groups. You don't get very much very often, but $10 here and there can help you at least stretch things. And one of them is linked to a scholarship website, something that might be able to help you get a few college classes under your belt. PM me if you're interested. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Michigan Works is statewide, and in addition to using their website to browse job listings I can go into the GR office and use the telephone in there to call employers. They offer a LOT of services actually. So yeah, I'm on that.
As for the survey stuff, my family has been doing it for years. My mom got $100 once. That was kinda cool. I'm a member of a couple, but if you want to PM me the info of the one(s) you're on, I'll fire my info back to ya.
And again, thanks for the ideas and the support. This community is great. _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'

Depending on the felony you had and the age you were as a teenager (I'm assuming "teenager" means "juvenile") you can possibly have your record sealed or wiped clean. It doesn't hurt to look into.
As far as helping troubled youths, I'm more surprised that the felony wasn't the stopping issue. I'd have to look a bit at how your state's juvenile program runs, but some states have entry level positions that don't require college degrees. These are essentially correctional officer jobs, though, and some correctional agencies get concerned about high debt levels. Others are just glad to have anybody apply.

He is one of the lucky ones...the State of Michigan's criminal system is a joke. They don't really try to fix or help, they blame and sit on the issue, till either your time is up or you get it in your head you want to improve and you do all the work to get out of the of the system.
Michigan has one of the worse system in the country. Ralgith got lucky, he figured out that staying in trouble doesn't work. But he has also found out that Michigan has another issue, one that I have had to deal more then once, it seems that their workers feel that if it actually required of them to keep things up to date but it doesn't gander them a promotion or some kind of kudos from the the boss, they simply for get to update the records or input the new info. Having had several issues where things were paid and paid on time come back to haunt me, imagine my surprise when the state troop, who pulled me over for a bust license plate light, asks me if I know anything about a bench warrant for my failing to pay court fees from 7 years ago. I am sure the look of WTF are you talking about and the fact that I have not had any issues, hey he could see I am not the kind to get into trouble that often, add in the fact I am being nice and working with the guy. Why shouldn't I? He is willing to let a $14 ticket go, if I get the light fixed...simple easy and all it cost me is about two hours of my time...
Long story short, found out that it had been paid, funny how quick the state was to show this once I came to court with the freaking canceled checks and the receipts, they back pedealed so fast and were very quick on removing the bench warrant etc...I never did hear back from them when I sent them a bill asking for $100 to cover my time being wasted and missing work. Funny how they expected me to pay court cost to cover their time being used to do their jobs. Yet can't seem to pay for mine.
Bottom line is this, the state of affairs for anything related to state government on any level in Michigan, be it the actual state or county or township level is a mix of corruption, self serving and self interest and in the end the only one who is hurt is the person who doesn't have the money to fight back, which is normally 85% of the folks rolling through the system for the petty and small stuff. Michigan is a failing state and one that needs an overhaul. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato
