Playing around with some of the "new" vehicles that seems to have shown up with the recent story (fairytale) plot, I tinkered with the Schmitt tank and try to add a few improvements to it. Most are to give it some better mid range punch and to protect it.
Enjoy...

What purpose do these units serve; do you recall?
A good Challenger or 3050 Von Luckner crew could take it in a heartbeat. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

I have no idea why the Schmitt tank ever got built beyond the need for TPTB to convert the MWDA (Or what ever new name the click based game has now) to BT standards. I was simply playing around with it.
As for a Challenger or Von Luckner taking it, sure that is possible and given the right terrain and luck it can one or both of them. All comes down to how you use the vehicles and how lucky the dice are. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

To me, one of the hardest things about doing designs for BTech is that the plethora of canon designs means a person has to go out of their way in order to create something truly unique; otherwise, there's a good chance a canon unit can fill the need unless the fluff prohibits it. This is why a lot of my designs (like the Weedwhacker VTOL and Defender VTOL) are so completely unorthodox.
WK or whoever first designed this tank could have easily repurposed an existing BTech MBT and been done with it. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." True, but a lot of the canon vehicles are not the perfect main battle tank, most have specialized roles or are simple cannon fodder for mechs to kill in droves.
Sure some are impressive and can be a threat to mechs, but most aren't. A lot of my vehicles try to mix in a flavor of weapons or have a role in mind, if I want to a basher then it will have armor and a heavy hitter for a gun. Now here with the Schmitt, I played around with what it had and made some changes. I have been offered ideas of lowering the LRM to a 10 rack, adding in some turret mounted Anti-Infantry weapons or more armor etc...endless ideas on what else could be done to this vehicle.
The same point you have made about the vehicles is also true for the mechs. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

With mechs, I've found that it's actually a little easier to design new models or even new units since there is wiggle room with the canon ones.
For example, remember those Javelins you and the others encountered in the campaign?
It never made sense to me why a mech whose main tactic was "run & gun" would have SRM 6s as their sole weapons, especially with such limited armor.
Instead, the lance members now have LRM 5s and a C3 slave, while the lance leader has medium lasers and a C3 master. This allows the lance members to harass and bombard targets without really sticking their necks out, and the lance leader can offer close-in support in case someone manages to get in range.
In fact, that's why they were so surprisingly new: the faction who employed them was sitting on top of a Javelin factory they'd been hiding. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
