Greetings Mordelites!
I have a question for you all. Now that Catalyst has made the Star League Source Book available at their website for far less than a hundred dollars - $7.50 for the PDF to be precise, would you recommend it? I'm interested in the original Star League but am aware that many of the old FASA books were...quirky (to say the least). So what are your thoughts?
Thanks!

Well, I haven't read it, but at $7.50 it can't hurt to buy. The PDFs are great because you can take them with you for reference wherever you may go! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Sure, if you have a laptop that can keep a battery for a long period and something to recharge it with or one of the nifty PDF readers, but you will still need a power source to recharge it. Books work so much better, but their size and weight hurt them for easy of use now a days...I really wonder how we all made do before computers came along.
But still we were promised the Star League Sourcebook as a PDF for free, guess CGL doesn't honor promises made by the past management of Battletech. Guess they don't think that their charging for something that was told to us by a one time, I do believe he is still a good friend and chimes from time to time, employee/consulate would happen has not. I guess making money on every and anything is the only way they can stay a float in today's market place.
Too bad they didn't keep the past promises, makes me wonder if they will change things again and again if they feel they must, not matter what they say. After all it is under $10, I mean really all that is a cheap movie ticket and no popcorn and drink, so really not that much but still... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Can you point me to the place where they "promised" it would be free?
Let's face it, companies need to make money to stay in business. I can assure you there isn't a heck of a lot of money in this business anyways for a large majority of the people in it. It is every companies prerogative to change their mind on something, promised or not.
And I'm assuming if you are somewhere where you need to open your laptop to do some fact checking, you are more than likely near a power supply. It isn't often you're playing BattleTech while on a camping trip! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Sure recall back when Warner was around, he posted on the CBT site, the main part of the site not the boards or forums, that just as soon as they cleaned up the SL book they would post it for free just like they had done with the other House books, I am sure by now they have taken down that little line of code, given that they are offering it for $7.50.
As for taking BT camping, hello, welcome to Iraq or Afghanistan or any other non-first world nation, I know I took stuff with me in the hope of getting in a game or two, managed to get the chance to play twice out of the three times I have been in Iraq.
And taking BT camping is something I have seen folks do. So it is not unheard of. Beats playing UNO over and over again. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Cool...thanks for the info Mordel and Karagin. I'll consider buying it once my next paycheck hits.
