After reading Inner Sphere redesign after Inner Sphere redesign, I thought it might be fun to revamp some familiar Clan mechs as sort of personal challenge to myself.
Now in these revamps, I took some liberties with improving the base chassis. Namely, making sure the chassis had an XL engine, Ferro, Endo, close to max armor as possible, and (depending on the needs of the chassis) an engine upgrade or downgrade. For the Mad Dog, I decided to give it an engine downgrade, as it was a heavy chassis. 8)

Ah, the great and venerable Mad Dog. I always hated the fact it had only one ton of ammo per launcher. So of course I used the extra tonnage to improve the ammo to three tons per launcher. While I could of gone for more, that would mean I would have to put the extra tons in the arms, and I didn't want to do that.
So I rounded out the design by exchanging the medium pulse lasers for ER ones, and used the rest of the tonnage and space for 4 double heatsinks, and an ECM suite to guard against Artemis IV, Narcs, Streaks, and Inner Sphere tactics. _________________ Cheers, CYBRN4CR "Cyber Enforcer"

Ah, this one was fun. Since I love SRM4s over SRM6s (more missiles per ton of ammo), I exchanged out the 6 previous srms and gave it MORE missiles for a barrage total of 40 SRMs. Keeping much of the variant the same, I added my lovely ECM, and rounded out the rest of the space with heatsinks. 8) _________________ Cheers, CYBRN4CR "Cyber Enforcer"

While I don't usually go for streaks, if I had to pick a streak, it'd be the SSRM4 for the extra ammo in the bin vs the 6. So switching out the SRMs, and adding appropriate ammo tonnage, I had to remove one pulse laser. With ATMs, I only like the standard and HE ammo, so I removed the ER ammo and changed out the mixed lasers for a solid med pulse laser combo as backup. Like before, I added an ECM suite. _________________ Cheers, CYBRN4CR "Cyber Enforcer"

This one changed the most as I had leftover tonnage after putting everything in, with not enough space. Plus the heat went way over the top of what I would call comfortable, so I kept the Heavy large laser, scrapped the Heavy medium lasers, and shuffled some components around to make just enough room for a Gauss rifle with 16 shots of ammo. _________________ Cheers, CYBRN4CR "Cyber Enforcer"

Okay... umm... first I must say that I am a fan of the original Mad Dog, which may explain a few things.
The Vulture / Mad Dog is NOT a fire-support machine, or a brawler. No matter what do it's weapon mixes look like, the Vulture is a striker / sniper in most of it's configurations and most of it's configurations draw the main firepower from the direct-fire weaponry, such as lasers and ACs. The missiles are there mostly for the sheer shock value, because even with their limited ammo they can usually do enough damage to either crack the enemy tough spot, or to finish off a chosen foe (remember that the clans prefer dueling). Mostly the Mad Dog uses it's other weapons and usually acts as a medium 'Mech IMO, filling similar role as the Storm Crow and Nova in the other clans.
Your refit has a lot of IS thinking behind it. Reduced speed, increased ammo load and puts the 'Mech firmly in fire support / brawler role. Where Standard Mad Dog keeps moving about and blasting with it's lasers while trying to find an ideal opportunity to release it's payload for the kill, your creation is better suited for slow advances and a steady shower of missiles and projectiles trying to wear down the opposition.
Prime configuration is a good example of what I wrote above. I see that you've used ER medium lasers instead of pulse weapons in order to free more tonnage for heat sinks. Unfortunately you are still one heat sink short IMO because the heat will slow you down if you try to fire both LPLs and LRMs at once. I think this somewhat reduces the usefulness of the design and further puts it out of clan military doctrine, but it shouldn't be much of a problem if you don't use it with them.
A configuration packs terrible short range punch, but I wonder how long it may take it to use it against more mobile foes. Please note that this configuration overheats a lot when it tries to fire all SRMs at once (10 points), even while standing still. Don't even think about firing the PPC while attempting something like this.
An upgrade of the B configuration in this way was a poor idea IMO, because the heat dissipation system wasn't touched. The large lasers alone generate enough heat to overwhelm the heat sinks. LRMs with one ton of ammo were there probably to boost firepower in a pinch, but now you are either changing one of the lasers into a paperweight, or asking for an explosion later, as the ammo won't be consumed. The SRMs are also one ton over the line with ammo load, because with 4/6 speed you probably won't get the opportunity to use three tons of streak SRM ammo in one battle.
C, D, E, F and J configurations are, on the other hand, quite sensible and they'll perform well as snipers or fire support machines, although C and J may be invading the the niche already occupied by the Glass Spider. H is also fine, but it could have easily dropped one of the heat sinks for something else. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I'm glad you like my versions of the C, D, E, F, and the J modified variants! I like them too. They use the extra tonnage to enhance the role of the Mad Dog - a fire support/sniper mech for the Clans. 8)
Knowing this, I think my Prime variant better fits its intended role than the original. Think of it like the E variant you approve of. Instead of having the missiles as backup punch, the missiles are now the main weapon, with the energy weps being the backup. Even though heat still is a factor for the Prime, it is better managed than the original.
Now I'm also glad you like my take on the H variant. I was really concerned about that one. But I've created an alternative with the Heavy Medium lasers that is a little less heat efficient, but has a lot more overall firepower. Personally, I like it better than the one I had before.

Now for the A variant, I have several options to modify what I already have. The first is to remove two SRM4s so that the heat of the SRM4 barrage is akin to the original SRM6 barrage. The second is to exchange the ERPPC for a Large Pulse Laser, but it loses its headcapping ability for the sake of heat and accuracy. The third takes 5 of the 10 SRM4s, and turns them around so they face rearward. Perhaps a combination of these thoughts would work too. Any ideas?
For the B variant, if you compare the original vs mine, the original has 52 heat, and 12 heat sinks, where mine has 47-49 heat with 15 heat sinks, allowing the Mad Dog to fire its two ER Large lasers and LRM 20 without issue. Otherwise, I really didn't change much other than removing the third pulse laser for more heatsinks, plus my personal touches.
I do have an alternate version of the B, one that changes it into a kind of alternate Prime, if you want to see it. 8)

Nothing, really. Just my preference if there is space for them with the launcher (the A variant being the exception, but then there was ammo there anyway).
