I haven't lost a design contest here since I don't know when and guess what? It's because there aren't any! Soooo... does anyone have a challenging set of specifications to which we could provide a design? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I've been thinking of having such a contest, but not sure who would actually partake. Ideally if I did it I'd do it later on after I made some key updates to the TRO section. Then I'd give something away. Sort of like a come "come try my site" contest. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

You should have them submit their designs to my site as part of the contest! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

And what about posting some specs, so that we'd see who'd come up with a design _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I think most of us would get involved with a build challenge. I know I would. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". Soooo... after a long time I have some project to work on. As you'll see if you continue reading, it had turned into a thought exercise on juggling the impossible to create a perfect balance
Some time ago I've decided to continue in my line of cheap omni-vehicles (types 14 and 30 helicopters, type 35 armoured car (more Stryker or Fuchs than a car really) and type 50 modular tank "Yari") with a MBT built according to the same specifics. This time, however, there is no denial that the low tech won't be easy to bend to fit my ideas.
Basic chassis of these vehicles should be built with omni-technology, but otherwise using lvl 1 materials (standard armour, ICE or Standard Fusion engine - ICE preferred) with minimal cost. The vehicle must not be outdated around 3070 (which is mainly due to modern weapons, but there must be enough room to pack enough of them, armour to protect them and speed to keep up - lower standard for it's weight minimum).
MBT needs to be able to face medium 'Mechs head-on and be able to threaten heavies. The tank has to be mobile and sufficiently armoured as well. Omission of any of these aspects is not acceptable. A compromise must be found.
Following vehicles were taken as inspiration as closest rivals:
Rommel (3025 vintage) - This tank has it all... almost. Good gun, some backup, heavy armour and good mobility. Seriously this is a tough contestant, but it packs a fusion engine, which opens an opportunity for the other, cheaper vehicles.
Zhukov (3058 vintage) - There is only one possible flaw - speed. Otherwise it's a very strong contestant.
Po (3058 vintage) - Po sits exactly on the sweet-spot where adding additional tonnage stops to offer any advantages for 4/6 speed ICE engine tank. Otherwise it's extremely cheap and has the armour and mobility. Firepower is unfortunately insufficient for the job IMO.
Manteufel - The speed and cost on this tank are off limits, but it must not out-shoot and outlast this vehicle by a class. Thus I want to stay relevant in terms of sheer firepower and armour.
From these basic premises I've formulated following requirements.
Speed: minimum 3/5, preferred 4/6
Armour: minimum 10 t, preferred 13 t
Armament: for basic configuration I've considered AC/10 + LRM-15, so it would need about 23 ton pod space minimum
Turret: 1,5 t minimum, 2 t preferred
Cost: 3 mil. C-Bills maximum, 1,5 mil. C-Bills preferred
Tracked
So, what route would you prefer to take with this design?
EDIT: I'll judge the design from the point of view of a procurement officer who has to equip several planetary militias as well as from tank user's view. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Just please try to make just one chassis.
I can make a dozen by myself, but I'd rather see one you'd consider perfect know why have you chosen this particular blend of features. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

This design was tested in Megamek (with Effective Vehicle options on) and in the Prime variant vs 3025 Mediums it went 1:1 victory. Variants were not tested. Suggested Long Range modification is to swap the SRMs for LRMs.

Very nice! Some crawl over the price tag, but that criteria *could* be passed a little. If only was the vehicle fuel cell tourney legal, as it would work fine to keep the thing more mobile. A good inspiration for my work _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Been doing readings in TacOps and now I want to design a Vee with Ferro-Lamellor Armor, an Armored Motive System, CASE II, Fuel-Cell Engine, Chemical Lasers, Supercharger, Duel-Turrets, Vehicle Jump Jets, and an External Vehicular Dropchutes.
