From the fluff the Destrier seems to be meant to be more than just a white elephant to parade around. Just like the Paladin before it, although the Paladin at least is serviceable as full size Long Tom artillery prevent it from needing to be close to actual combat. Still it's rather impractical as it needs non-standard vehicle bays on dropships _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

It was about Vagabonds argument of less crew to train and to loose and your answer that four tanks still rule in that aspect by having one crewmember less.
If you do not think that less total crew is an advantage i don't understand your comment. _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' That 200 ton monster is a white elephant no matter what the designers thought it could or the military commanders wanted it to do. The fact remains, it is slow, it is a target and risking it means losing it. Look at the Pre-WW2 Russian T-28s they looked impressive and in reality were a joke. They were big and showed that the Soviets could make large tanks thus had the industry to take on any one, and in fact they didn't. When the poop hit the fan, they built massive medium tanks aka the T-34 and used that for about 90% of the armor needs. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Heh, the problem IMO is, that Davion troops have to demonstarate, that this lesson still applies _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Vagabond's point was, that for superheavy tank you train one crew, but for four lighter tanks you need four crews, which is more expensive and there is more men to loose, which I opposed by stating how many men there are in each of these, which kinda prooves, that upkeep will be largely the same. Four tanks make it easier to loose part of the crew, since it's possible to single out one tank of the group rather than destroying one heavier tank, but as they can be faster or pack more firepower I'd also expect the time you have to expose lighter tanks would be shorter, so I'd say that from crew statistics point of view the difference would be negligible. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Personally I thought this tech readout was a ok. The last few tech readouts seem to have the Fed Suns getting the short end of the stick in terms of new equipment. I like a couple versions of the Zibler tank but vehicles are easily disabled so I take a closer look at the mech designs
I like the light mech designs, the gunsmith and hollander. Nothing very good in the medium category and the centurion isn't much different than past designs. I like the black knight and the templar prime and D, but the atlas II is awful.
This tech readout lacks a heavy or assault with decent mobility (jump) and retaining good firepower. The Fed Suns needs to stop using the RACs and LACs and switch to other weapons systems and equipment such as the snub nose PPC and improved jump jets

You just need to start using the Vehicle Damage Threshold rules I implemented in MegaMek (not sure if anyone around here is aware, but I've been on the development team for over a year now) awhile back. Yes, it's a house rule, but when used in conjunction with the other "make vees more effective rules", it brings things into a lot closer of parity between mechs and tanks. A 50t tank can now take on a 40t mech reasonably well. Tanks are still weaker, than mechs, but not so bad that a 20t mech can take out a 100t tank 75%+ of the time, _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'

Ok great, I play a lot of megamek and will try that rule. The guys I play with and myself always joke it is a race to get a vehicle into a decent position before it becomes a stationary gun turret. After a few light weapons hits starts disabling your best tanks you start to wonder why you are using them
