Is out in DTF aka book format only. And seems to be the plan for this one. Given that a majority of it a reprint of the Faction based 3145TROs with some additional info and mixing in of Republic mechs etc...I am not sure it was worth the $39.99 plus shipping and also several local game stores said they did not show it as being able to be ordered...
The books is thrown together, the sections are not broken up like the older TROs, you go from reading about battlearmor and then you are in to the vehicle section and then right into mechs etc...
They really need to pic one or two artist. Way too many points of view with the artwork in this TRO. One of the dropships looks like the rock creatures from Neverending Story.
The big deal of the book are the super heavy mechs and tripods, not really seeing them as ground breaking, more of the munchkin dream come true. I know we all have had ideas for super heavy mechs and we will see a lot of designs, some good some bad and some really bad. Should be fun, might even see many versions of the old MONSTER from Robotech fame...
There are new quirks. I get it, they are attempts to bring the fluff text info into usable game mechanics, but some are a bit odd. One that is mentioned is Illegal design. But then it says that illegal design must still fit the record sheet and the criticals slots, normally if someone is going to use an illegal design they are doings so to win and it's normally called cheating, it's like having two Ace of Hearts in a deck of cards in a game of poker. We have all seen the illegal designs, the ones that have those extra ammo bays thus never running out of ammo, or the mech with 10 double heat sinks that can never over heat even with the mechs' heat is in the 50s plus range. Not sure this a good quirk to allow in the game at all. Calling something a prototype and trying out something is one thing, that means it has pros and cons and folks know up front, but most who are going to use illegal designs aren't going to tell you yeah my 35 ton Spider has the firepower of 45 ton mech and it's armor is that of a 50 ton one, but trust me its 35 tons.
I wonder what the quirk would be to say no to quirks to start with?
Now there were some interesting Republic mechs in the mix, several that had a well rounded arsenal and looked to be worth trying out, the same with a number of vehicles and fighters. The drone mechs...yeah haven't tried them yet so I am still waiting to hear what others have done with them and hoping to try them next time I get the chance to play BT.
Overall the book was NOT worth the price they are asking and seeing how they put out a large chunk of it in the faction based PDFs I think hurt this product in large way mainly due to what was offered in the book that was actually new wasn't really that super or exciting or well different enough to make up for the cost.
I am sure others will find things they like or dislike about the book, so your mileage and ideas about it will vary. Off to tinker with the mechs and such and see what can be done to them. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Well, the tripods in general look like somebody has taken all the advantages of the bipeds and added the advantage of the quad without any disadvantage. At most they have another location they need to put armour on, but that's largely it :\
I don't have the TRO, but I heard that the other main pull aside from RotS units and quirks is the new table that shows what's newly standard/advanced/experimental for the era.
Aside from that the new TRO release politic would suck totally if they didn't put out the pdfs with record sheets. This way it's somewhat better than that, but still nothing stellar especially considering the quality of some of the units that were presented.
I'd welcome if they released TRO 3145: Republic of The Sphere as PDF to round out the series and not full TRO, forcing the re-buy of all units. I think it would be fairer treatment. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Sorry for the late posting. I do i have the DTF and most of the art is great. I do think they may have rushed to images for Republic 'Mechs, mainly the Malice. But its nice variety of 'Mechs in this book. I'm looking forward to the Record Sheets: 3145 Unabridged.
As for the PDFs vs DTF...I do prefer holding the TRO. However, i did buy all the PDFs. Frankly way it currently structured, i frankly would have strictly stuck with the PDFs due to cost and missing units found in the Faction theme TRO PDFs.
I'm not sure what CGL will do after this publishing.

Plus the republic units with which they didn't bother making an extra TRO PDF. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Does it work as a TRO if you ignore the PDF angle? What about fluff and stats?
Republic units will be released as a standalone PDF product, too.
There's been talk of the rules chapter being appended to the NTNU record sheet volume.
That means apart from the new notable pilots on the non-Republic units, most everything from this TRO should be released in PDF form. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Oh, I thought you heard something, for from what it looks like now it's that the next PDF will be 3145 TRO full where you'll essentially re-buy everything from the separate PDFs plus some exclusives _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

No it doesn't. Those of us who bought the faction PDFs pretty much BOUGHT them again when we bought the DTF of TRO30145. It was a well played trick by CGL, they got us to double dip on this one and I think it might have back fired on them since many folks will be a bit leery about buying something twice.
Unless this new ROTS PDF offers something super amazing I don't see myself buying it not if it is nothing more then what we have already seen. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Well, the psperback variant offers those extra Republic units and a list of new quirks and tech newly alleviated to standard and advanced status. If the PDF is offered foor thesame price as the other faction books and contains the record sheets then it might be bearale... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I don't know anything about release dates. But as for release contents, what I said above, based on what was said on the official forums and outside of it.
Though I cannot certainly vouch for the extent of the rules that will be printed in the NTNU part of the 3145 RS.
I am a bit depressed about the quick changing of the tenor. 3145 PDF series was lauded near-unanimously, until the print TRO was released. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior
