HELLWASP
Overview
Lighter and faster than the Hooded Eagle, the Hellwasp OmniMechs that are part of the Goliath Scorpion Touman serve as the scouts and fast strikers of the Clan. Concentrated in Hussar Clusters, the Hellwasps provide the Scorpion Khans with a unit that nearly matches the speed of the antiquated Fire Moth, but with far greater armor protection and firepower. As the lightest OmniMech in the Clan, only veteran Warriors are assigned to these machines . . . resulting in some very interesting duels between vastly different weights of OmniMechs when the Scorpions first debuted this machine.
Other Clans learned quickly that the Hellwasp is an OmniMech designed to reward skill and precision, not brute force. And in the hands of experienced Scorpion Warriors, the Hellwasp served as a scalpel striking heavier OmniMechs fast and with great precision.
In order to save as much time in the development process as possible, Scorpion engineers used the chassis of the Star League era FLC-4N Falcon as the frame for their new Hellwasp. This decision limited the mass of weapons that could be installed on the arms, but with the already contricted pod-space, the Scorpion Khans believed that the inability to support heavier weapons would not realistically matter.
Capabilities
At 30 tons in overall mass, the Hellwasp is the lightest OmniMech fielded by Clan Goliath Scorpion. The design uses a 270-rate extra-light fusion engine fitted to an Endo-Steel II internal-structure chassis for the maximum possible savings in tonnage. Five and one-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating gives the Hellwasp 100% of the maximum possible protection available for a 30-ton unit as well.
This leaves 9.5 tons of available pod space for weapons and equipment. A targeting computer (of either 1 or 2 tons) is standard on all configurations.
The Hellwasp Prime is the most commonly encountered version. This configuration carries an ER Large Laser in the right arm as its sole offensive weapon. The laser is tied into a one-ton targeting computer stored in the center torso. Defensively, the Prime is fitted with an Anti-Missile System in the head and a ton of AMS flechettes stored in the center torsi. The remaining mass is consumed by an Active Probe (right torso), ECM Suite (left torso), and TAG system (left arm). The Hellwasp Prime makes a fast-moving (and astoundingly robust) scout.
Configuration A is outfitted with an ER PPC in the right arm as the primary weapon. To deal with infantry threats, a Small Pulse Laser is mounted in the head and a Flamer in the left arm. Both the laser and PPC are tied into a two-ton targeting computer in the center torso.
The Hellwasp B was designed for close-range combat operations. Three Medium Pulse Lasers are carried (one each in the right arm, right torso, and left torso), supported by a Small Pulse Laser and Flamer (both in the left arm). All four lasers are tied into a two-ton targeting computer in the center torso. The accuracy of this Configuration cannot be underestimated . . . many shots which would impossible in other OmniMechs can be performed by the Hellwasp B on a fairly regular basis; especially if the Warrior assigned to this unit is experienced.
Configuration C is a long-range fire support unit, with the primary weapon being an LRM-10 launcher with Artemis IV fire control in the right arm. Two tons of ammunition provide for a total of twenty-four missile salvoes. Three ER Medium Lasers (right torso, left torso, and left arm) back up the LRM; all are tied into a one-ton targeting computer in the center torso.
Configuration D is a city-fighter and infantry hunter. Designed to engage hostile infantry and Elementals, the Hellwasp D is fitted with an Active Probe in the right torso, an Anti-Missile System in the head (with a ton of flechettes stored in the center torso), two AP Gauss Rifles in the left torso alongside a ton of ammuniton, two ER Medium Lasers (right and left arms), and two Flamers (right and left arms). The lasers and AP Gauss Rifles are tied into a one-ton targeting computer in the center torso. Although the D does run quite hot at close range, it is a fearsome opponent for hostile infantry.
The Hellwasp E is a superb light scout; this configuration devotes 4.5 tons to nine jump jets. This provides the OmniMech with a maximum jump range of 270 meters. An Active Probe (right torso) and ECM Suite (left torso) come standard, leaving little room for other weapons. The only offensive armament on this OmniMech consists of two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm) tied into a one-ton targeting computer in the center torso. However, when used properly, the Hellwasp makes a fine skirmisher/harasser.
Configuration F also carries 4.5 tons of jump jets giving it the same 270-meter jump capability as the Hellwasp E. This version forgoes the Active Probe and ECM Suite of the E, however, in order to carry TAG in the head and a heavier weapons load: four ER Lasers (two Mediums, one in each arm, and two Smalls, one each in the right and left torsos). The Hellwasp F is often paired with the Hellwasp E in light strike stars.
Finally, the Hellwasp G has been designed to engagement its opponents at point-blank range. One ER Medium Laser is fitted to the right arm and is the longest-ranged weapon on this OmniMech. Supporting the ER Medium are no fewer than NINE ER Small Lasers (one head, three each in the right and left torso, and two in the left arm). All ten lasers are tied into a two-ton targeting computer in the center torso . . . and to deal with the heat produced by the laser battery, two additional double-strength heat sinks were added to the chassis.
Deployment
Found primarily in the ranks of Clan Goliath Scorpion, a handful of Hellwasps have begun to flow from the Abyssal complex on Huntress to the other Clans of Kerensky. Since control of the former Scorpion (and former Jaguar before them) factory complex was taken by Clan Diamond Shark, the restoration of the Hellwasp production line was considered a priority. Restored just a few months ago, the first newly produced Hellwasps since the Scorpion Abjuration have begun to trickle into service with the Homeworld Toumans.

HOODED EAGLE
Overview
The Hooded Eagle is the standard Clan Goliath Scorpion light-weight OmniMech fielded by the Scorpion Touman during the Scorpion Abjuration and the establishment of the Scorpion Expanses. The basic design was first unveiled in 3058, when the original Prime was show-cased to the Khans. Although slower than the vaunted Fire Moth, the new Hooded Eagle was more massive, featured greatly increase armor protection, and a very welcome thirteen tons of pod-space for weapons and equipment.
Critics noted that it was far more costly than the more common Fire Moth, however, since the entire expanded Scorpion Touman would include only 126 Hooded Eagles, the extra expense was deemed well worth the cost in resources. Approved by the Khans and the Council of Warriors for production, the first Hooded Eagles walked off the assembly line on Roche in the winter of 3056.
One other notable criticism of the design is the outward appearance. Having only a limited amount of time to finalize the Hooded Eagle and prepare for mass production, the Scientists of Clan Goliath Scorpion 'borrowed' the chassis from the ancient Taurian Concordat Toro BattleMech. The leaders of several conservative Clans (including the Spirits, Falcons, and Vipers) objected vehemently once the design was unveiled.
Capabilities
Massing 35-tons, the Hooded Eagle is a large and powerful light-weight OmniMech. Power is provided by an extra-light fusion engine (280XL) that propels the design at speeds of 86.4 kilometers per hour (walking) and 129.6 kph (running). No jump jets are fixed to the chassis, but there is an OmniMech configuration that includes them as pod-mounted equipment. The choice of engine allows the Hooded Eagle to match speed with the famous Locust, Mercury, Mongoose, and Cicada of Star League fame and was deemed as 'good enough' for a scout/recon unit by the Scorpions.
The base chassis was built with Endo-Steel II internal structure to save mass, while plates of Ferro-Fibrous armor (six full tons, for 96.63% of maximum coverage) was used to provide maximum protection for the weight sacrificed. Through the use of these advanced materials and engine, the design team managed to provide thirteen tons of pod-space for weapons and equipment.
Contrary to common practice, the Scorpions did not mount any additional fixed heat sinks, nor any fixed equipment or weaponry of any kind, providing their new Hooded Eagles with maximum flexibility in their weapon and equipment payloads.
The Prime Configuration serves as the eyes and ears of the Scorpion touman: this model carries an ER Large Laser in the right arm, a Streak SRM-4 launcher (with 25 missile salvoes) in the left arm, two AP Gauss Rifles (with 40 bursts) in the left torso, an Active Probe and an ECM Suite (both in the right torso), a TAG target designation system along side the ERLL in the right arm, and a one-ton Targeting Computer fitted to the head. Researchers for ComStar have recently learned the Goliath Scorpion designation for this configuration is Prime-2, indicating that a previous configuration was designated as Prime. Indications are that the original Prime lacked the AP Gauss Rifles and ammunition, being equipped instead with an ER Medium Laser (left arm) and two Machine-Guns with a half-ton of ammunition (100 bursts) in the left torso.
Configuration A is a long-range fire-support model, as disliked as that role is amongst the Clan. However, due to the lack of a minimum range on Clan LRM systems, the Hooded Eagle A makes a formidable opponent at close range as well. Armament consists of an ER Large Laser in the right arm, an LRM-10 launcher with Artemis IV FCS in the left arm with 24 missile salvoes, an ER Medium Laser in the right torso, an Anti-Missile System with 24 bursts in the left torso, and a one-ton Targeting Computer fitted to the head.
Configuration B is an energy boat of lethal proportions. Every weapon on this OmniMech is a pulse laser, tied into a targeting computer, allowing a Clan Warrior to successfully make otherwise impossible shots. The primary weapon is a Large Pulse Laser in the right arm, with twin Medium Pulse Lasers in the left arm. The heat generated by these weapons exactly matches what the Hooded Eagle B can dissipate on a full run, making this configuration cool-running as well. To make matters worse, the Scorpions added an ECM Suite in the head and fitted a two-ton Targeting Computer to the right torso.
Configuration C is another long-range sniper, but actually plays an air-defense role in the Scorpion Touman. The main weapon is an LB-5X autocannon with 40 bursts (20 slug and 20 cluster) in the right arm, with two ER Medium Lasers in the left arm as secondary weapons. All three guns are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer located in the right torso.
The heavy hitting Confinguration D features a Clan ER PPC as the main gun in the right arm. This configuration is the ONLY Hooded Eagle on record that does not possess working lower arm and hand actuators, and even this configuration carries those components on the left arm. An ER Medium Laser in the head backs-up the heavy weapon, while a Streak SRM-4 launcher with 25 shots in the left arm gives the design crit-seeking capability at close range. An eleventh double-strength heat sink is fitted to the left torso to aid in dealing with the heat this machine is capable of producing. Finally, the Hooded Eagle D has a two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso.
Configuration E is final official Scorpion model. The Hooded Eagle E fits eight Jump Jets to the chassis, four each in the right and left torsos, which gives this model a 240-meter jump capacity. In addition, the Scorpions made certain to outfit this model as a scout, with a head-mounted Active Probe, an ECM Suite in the left torso, and a TAG system in the left arm. The primary weapon is an ER Large Laser in the right arm, tied into a one-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso. The only secondary weapons are two left-arm
mounted flamers, that gives the Hooded Eagle E secondary duties as an incendiary and anti-personnel OmniMech, as distasteful as those missions are to Clan Warriors.
Clan Star Adder is known to have fielded Configuration F in the skirmishes leading up the Scorpion Adjuration. This model carries an ATM-6 launcher with 30 missile salvoes in the right arm, an ER Large Laser in the left arm, an Anti-Missile System in the head with 24 bursts stored in the right torso, and a one-ton Targeting Computer in the left torso.
Clan Wolf also had their own configuration for the limited number of Hooded Eagles within their forces. Configuration W was a close-combat specialist, with two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm), two Streak SRM-6 launchers (right torso and left torso), each with 15 missile salvoes stored alongside, an Active probe (right torso), an ECM Suite (left torso), and a TAG system (head).
Battle History
Hooded Eagles provided recon-data and ECM coverage for the Scorpion assault against the Circinus Federation in 3066, and while the local defenders did not prove themselves worthy opponents of this Clan, the Word of Blake forces in-system did. Unknown to the Scorpions, the WoB had transformed Circinus into a major base of operations and training center, and two full divisions of troops were on planet during the invasion. The Hooded Eagles proved instrumental in detecting the new cybernetically-enhanced Word infantry and
power-armor personnel on the ground and in disrupting the C3 networks used by the Word's front-line armor and BattleMechs.
Deployment
Within the Goliath Scorpion Touman, these units are found only in the ranks of Scorpion Hussar Clusters. The Hooded Eagles are deployed as two points of a Star, in conjunction with three of the heavier Sand Devils, or serving as the heavy elements of a light star, with three Hooded Eagles and two faster Hellwasps. As organized, the Hussar Clusters are very mobile, with no OmniMech capable of achieving a ground speed of less than 97.2 kilometers per hour.
In addition to the Scorpion touman, Hooded Eagles can be found in the ranks of Clan Star Adder and Clan Wolf, both of whom won batchalls to secure the production rights in the years preceding the Scorpion Abjuration (3059 for the Wolves, and 3063 for the Adders). These OmniMechs are still relatively rare within their toumans, however.
Other Clans field an occasional Hooded Eagle taken as isorla . . . in the wake of the Scorpion Abjuration, Clan Steel Viper, Clan Fire Mandrill, Clan Blood Spirit, and Clan Ice Hellion have been able to claim the most working examples. However, the ferocity of Khan Surovov's defense of Roche ensured that all such salvaged OmniMechs had been badly damaged in the fighting. As a final insult, it was discovered in the aftermath that the Scorpions had destroyed utterly the factory on Roche which manufactured the Hooded Eagle, and the factory on Dagda was found stripped of all machinery.

SAND DEVIL
Overview
The second of the new Clan Goliath Scorpion OmniMechs to be introduced was the 45-ton Sand Devil. Debuting six months after the Hooded Eagle in early 3057, the Sand Devil is a fast and capable medium-weight design that forms the fighting core of the nimble Scorpion Hussars Clusters as well as the flankers and scouts of the Scorpion Dragoons Clusters.
This OmniMech was named after the Sand Devil of Roche (a massive insect reminiscent of a Terran ant-lion, but measuring nearly three meters in length and massing up to two hundred kilograms) in honor of that creatures patience and ferocious tenacity. Dwelling in the deep wastes of the Vermillion Desert, the sand devils excavate a pit using the loosened soil to build embankments that surround it; their lair complete, they then bury themselves in the bottom of the pit and wait for their prey to stumble and slide within striking range. Once a sand devil has taken hold of their victim, they do not release it until it ceases to struggle completely. Travelers in the wastes must take care, for while sand devils are not common, neither are they especially rare.
Capabilities
Massing 45-tons, the Sand Devil uses a 315-rate extra-light fusion engine and an Endo-Steel II chassis to save as much mass as possible and still allow for a walking speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 118.8 kph. As with the lighter Hooded Eagle, the scientists charged with designing the new OmniMech decided against installing any additional double-strength heat sinks, fixed equipment, or jump jets in the design. Eight tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating provides the medium-weight design with 100% of the possible armor coverage for a 45-ton OmniMech. Despite this hefty protective plating, the Sand Devil has 16.5 tons of pod-space available for weapons and equipment.
Critics have compared the design to Clan Wolf's Ice Ferret, citing the slower pace of the Sand Devil versus the older OmniMech . . . but Scorpion Warriors point to the greater pod-space (16.5 tons vs 7.5 tons) and heavier armor protection (8 tons vs. 7.5) as advantages of their new design well worth the loss of just 10.2 kilometers per hour in maximum speed. Some Clan Wolf Warriors have taken exception to Scorpion crowing over the lack of the two 'wasted' heat sinks installed in the Ice Ferret's engine as well, and several
Trials of Grievance have been fought over the matter.
The Sand Devil Prime carries just two weapon systems: an ER PPC in the right arm, while the left arm carries an LRM-15 launcher with Artemis IV FCS and three tons of ammunition (for a total of 24 missile salvoes). Despite the rumored Scorpion disdain for missile weapons, Warriors appreciate the range and spread of the missile launcher in complement to the hard-hitting ER PPC. An 11th double-strength heat sink in the left torso provides enough heat dissipation for the Prime to run and gun with both weapons and remain heat neutral. A two-ton Targeting Computer is fitted to the right torso. One legitimate criticism of the design is that the left arm retains lower arm and hand actuators and the Prime therefore cannot flip its arms to fire to the rear.
Configuration A carries twin ER Large Lasers as the primary weapons (one each in the right and left arm), supported by a Streak SRM-4 with 25 missile salvoes in the left torso, and a center-torso Flamer for anti-personnel and incendiary work. A two-ton Targeting Computer has been installed in the right torso, and three additional double-strength heat sinks added (one in the right torso and two in the left torso) to deal with the heat burden of this model. Despite the additional heat sinks, the Sand Devil A can still run hot, especially at close range when the Flamer is used and the Streaks successfully lock onto a target. Such minor heat spikes are easily handled by most Clan Warriors, however. Both arms have fully functional hand actuators.
Configuration B has been fitted with a Large Pulse Laser in the right arm, a Streak SRM-6 launcer with 15 missile salvoes in the left arm, two Medium Pulse Lasers, one each in the right and left torso, and a Flamer in the center torso. Only the ten base heat sinks are mounted, but this was deemed sufficient to deal with the lasers and movement . . . the SRMs and flamer are considered secondary weapons. A two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso completes the design. Both arms have fully functional hand actuators.
The Sand Devil C was built to provide anti-air coverage to the fast moving Scorpion Touman. The main weapon is an LB-5X autocannon in the right arm, with 40 bursts (20 slug and 20 cluster are standard), supported by three ER Medium Lasers (two in the left arm and one in the left torso), an ER Small Laser in the left torso, and an ECM Suite in the center torso. Although this configuration mounts just the ten double-strength heat sinks, the C model is a cool-running machine, remaining heat neutral even when all weapons are triggered. A three-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso makes these weapons exceptionally accurate. However, among other Clans, the Sand Devil C is considered underarmed, as an LB-10X autocannon would double the firepower and still remain as effective against air threats. But the Scorpions note that using a larger autocannon would sacrifice half the ammunition capacity, one ER Medium Laser, the ECM Suite, and a third of the maximum range of the lighter weapon. Another critique is that once again, the Sand Devil is unable to flip arms, with lower arm and hand actuators on the left arm, but not on the right.
Configuration D is a heavy scout, equipped with an Active Probe in the right torso, an ECM Suite in the left torso, and a TAG system in the right arm. Armament consists of an ER Large Laser in the right arm, two ER Medium Lasers in the left arm, an Anti-Missile System with 24 bursts in the left torso, and two AP Gauss Rifles (one each in the right and left torso) with 40 bursts of ammunition (stored in the center torso). Two additional double-strength heat sinks are fitted (one each in the right torso and left torso) and a two-ton Targeting Computer finishes the design in the right torso.
The Sand Devil E is a fast artillery configuration. The right arm and right torso carry the bulk of an Arrow IV missile launcher, with 10 missiles stored in the right torso. This consumes much of the available pod space, leaving just enough room for a single ER Medium Laser (left arm), an ER Small Laser (center torso), and a one-ton Targeting Computer in the left torso. Not much desired by Scorpion Warriors, the Sand Devil E is nonetheless a necessary and vital component of the touman.
Configuration F fits seven Jump Jets to the chassis (one in the center torso and three each in the right and left torsos) for a jump capacity of 210 meters. Like the D model, the F carries an Active Probe (right torso), an ECM Suite (left torso), and TAG in the right arm. Weapons consist of an ER Large Laser in the right arm and two ER Medium Lasers in the left arm. Two additional double-strength heat sinks (one each in the right and left torso) alleviate all but the heat accumulated from jumping. Finally, a two-ton targeting computer is fitted to the right torso.
The Sand Devil G is a Coyote configuration, and features two ATM-6 launchers (one each in the right arm and left arm) and 60 missile salvoes (30 each in the right arm and left arm). Two ER Medium Lasers back up the advanced missile systems, mounted in the right torso and center torso. To round out the equipment, an Anti-Missile System has been installed in the left torso with 24 bursts.
And the last official known configuration (the Sand Devil H) belongs to the Hell's Horses. The primary weapon is a HAG-20 in the right arm with 12 bursts, paired with an ER Large Laser in the left arm. As usual, the Sand Devil retains the hand and lower arm actuators in the left arm. The only other weapon system is an ER Small Laser mounted in the center torso. The Sand Devil H has the lowest endurance of any of the various configurations known to exist, but the Horse's seem quite pleased with its combination of speed, range, and firepower.
Battle History
One of the workhorse designs of Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Sand Devil has proved itself as a capable and solid OmniMech in numerous Trials in the Homeworlds during the late 3050s and early 3060s. This OmniMech also played a large role in the defense of Roche during the Scorpion Abjuration in 3065 and again in the assault on Circinus in 3066.
Star Colonel Jillian Scott commands the 14th Scorpion Hussars (Swift Retribution) from the cockpit of a Sand Devil, as she prefers the lighter more mobile OmniMech over the slightly slower and more powerful Desert Tiger. In the fighting against the Word forces on Circinus in 3066, Jillian Scott played a pivotal role in shaping the battle when she led the 14th Hussars across fifty-four kilometers of open savannah to deny the Word forces their only line of retreat. Despite the light tonnage of her forces, she managed to hold until the remaining two Clusters of Alpha Galaxy arrived and forced the Blakists back into the city of Clayborne Remembered.
Deployment
Among Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Sand Devil is concentrated in the Hussars and Dragoons Clusters, with more than half of all OmniMechs in the Hussars Clusters being the Sand Devil (around one-fourth in the Dragoons Clusters). In addition, the Sand Devil (and the Desert Tiger) are in use by Scorpion sibko training cadres.
In 3058, Clan Hell's Horses won the rights to produce the Sand Devil design in a fierce Trial conducted on Roche; two years later, the Horse's were defeated by the Coyotes, who also produced this capable design. Both the Horses and Coyotes field standard Scorpion configurations and each have their own configuration as well. This OmniMech remains relatively uncommon in the Horseand Coyote Toumans, but in 3061, Clan Diamond Shark won rights to the design and they have made it available to every Clan in exchange for resources.
Khan Brett Andrews of Clan Steel Viper was reportedly furious when he learned that the Sand Devil production facility on Roche had been destroyed by the Scorpions during their defense . . . and his anger was inflamed even more when the complex on Dagda was found stripped of all machinery and schematics. Although a substantial number of salvaged Sand Devils was recovered from the fighting on Roche, the Vipers agreement to provide the majority of isorla to their Hellion, Mandrill, and Spirit allies in return for Viper possession of the enclaves on Roche and Dagda has left that Clan with very few working war-machines to make good their own losses. Brett Andrews has reportedly protested to the Grand Council that the Scorpions deliberate destruction of their own factories and industrial complexes (including the flooding of their underwater mining operations on Dagda) violated the Martial Code of Kerensky; rumor suggests that he wants to pursue the Scorpions and engage them in a Trial of Annihilation.
Unfortunately for Viper aspirations, the Adders, Bears, Coyotes, Falcons, and Wolves (among other Clans) have managed to block the calls for Annihilation, citing that the Abjuration already in effect is more than sufficient . . . and that since the Scorpions have left the Homeworlds, no further action is necessary. Khans Ward and Pryde in particular angered the Viper Khan further when they responded to his calls for vengeance as an example of the Vipers overstepping their boundaries by choosing to ignore the grace period the Grand Council had granted to the Scorpions to remove themselves from the Homeworlds.

DESERT TIGER
Overview
The most common of the new Clan Goliath Scorpion OmniMechs is the 55-ton Desert Tiger. This highly effective medium-weight OmniMech has suffered criticism that it is nothing more than a clone of the famed Stormcrow, which led to a Trial of Grievance between Clan Snow Raven and the Scorpions in early 3057. Fiercely fought on both sides, the Scorpions narrowly emerged as the winners, although the Ravens and Horses contend to this day that the Scorpions 'stole' their design without a proper batchall.
Despite Scorpion protests to the contrary, most Clan Warriors agree with the Ravens and Horses . . . although one cannot say with certainty, this incident quite possibly contributed to the lack of support for the Scorpions during the Grand Council debates for the Scorpion Abjuration in 3065. While the design appears to be a near clone of the Stormcrow (except in outer cosmetic appearance, at least), the dispute did not stop other Clans from trying to obtain this design for themselves. A dozen batchalls were fought from 3058 to 3065 for production, but in each of these Trials, the Scorpions managed to retain exclusive production rights. Only a handful of Desert Tigers captured as isorla can be found within the other Clans today.
The Desert Tiger is a genetically engineered cat species that was introduced to Roche by SLDF scientists. Derived from Bengal Tigers, the Roche Desert Tiger actually decreased in size from the genetic manipulations. The largest recorded specimen on record measured just over one meter from nose to hind-quarters, although the tail adds approximately another meter of overall length. With full-grown specimens massing around 75 kilograms, the Desert Tiger is a powerful cat for its size, well-muscled with wickedly curved and serrated claws. The genetic engineering for the Desert Tiger changed the cats behavior from solitary to communal, and these creatures can be found in large prides of around twenty to thirty adults (twice as many cubs) that lair in shallow caverns surrounding water holes in the desert wastes. One unique characteristic of the Desert Tiger is that juveniles and younger adults alike appear to 'honor' the elders of the pack, allowing them first choice of kills and even carrying meat to those too infirm to hunt for themselves.
The Scorpions honored this animal by giving its name to their workhorse OmniMech design for its fearless nature in defending its territory from other predators and its herding of prey species that share its water supply. The tigers defend their prey from other predators, husbanding a scarce resource for themselves, a trait that the Scorpions wished to honor. Many of the known configurations of the Desert Tiger further reflect the honor that the cats show their elders by being based on ancient SLDF BattleMechs.
A second point of contention arose over the appearance of this new OmniMech. Faced with a very real deadline to get this war-machine in production, Scorpion scientists decided to use the chassis of the Talos BattleMech . . . a Taurian unit dating back to the Reunification War. Although outwardly resembling the famed Timber Wolf, the Scorpions were beset with a cacophony of protests once more conservative Clans learned of the actual origin of the chassis.
Capabilities:
Massing 55-tons, the Desert Tiger is a high-end medium-weight OmniMech. Power is provided by a 330-rate extra-light fusion engine, which allows for a walking speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 97.2 kph. The design team used an Endo-Steel II internal skeleton to save additional mass, and protected the OmniMech with 9.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (98.37% maximum coverage), which leaves 23 tons of available pod-space.
The Desert Tiger Prime is a powerful general combat unit, with an ER Large Laser in the right arm and an LRM-15 with Artemis IV FCS in the right torso (24 missile salvoes) for ranged combat. At shorter ranges, the design features three ER Medium lasers in the left torso, a Streak SRM-4 with 25 missile salvoes in the left arm, and two AP Gauss Rifles with 40 bursts in the left torso. Just the basic ten double-strength heat sinks are provided, but this is sufficient for bracket fire . . . Warriors are advised not to attempt an Alpha Strike, however. For additional defensive fire, an Anti-Missile System has been fitted to the right torso with 24 bursts. The lasers and APGs have also been tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the left torso. The Prime is considered an honor configuration to the ancient SLDF Thunderbolt, and both arms retain fully functional lower arm and hand actuators.
Configuration A is equipped with an LB-10X autocannon in the right arm with 20 bursts and an ER PPC in the left arm. A single head-mounted ER Medium Laser is the sole secondary weapon system. Both arms are capable of flipping to fire at targets in the rear and a four-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso rounds out the design. The Desert Tiger A was designed after Scorpion Scientists and Warriors found the schematics for the Capellan Cataphract.
Configuration B has a specialty of close-quarters combat. The primary weapon is a right arm Large Pulse Laser, with four Medium Pulse Lasers (2 in the left arm, and one each in the right torso and left torso) as back-up weapons. A pair of AP Gauss Rifle with 40 bursts (one APG each in the right and left torso, the non-explosoive is stored ammunition in the head) gives the design anti-personnel capability. A three-ton Targeting Computer comes standard in the right torso, along with four additional double-strength heat sinks (one in the right torso and three in the left). Both arms feature full actuators. ComStar has yet to identify a specific BattleMech that this configuration is based upon.
The Desert Tiger C is based on the SLDF Warhammer. Each arm carries an ER Large Laser, with four ER Small Lasers mounted two each in the right and left torso. A Streak SRM-6 with 15 missile salvoes has been fitted to the right torso as well. Rather than anti-infantry weapons, the C Configuration instead carries an Active Probe in the head, an ECM Suite in the right torso, and a two-ton Targeting Computer in the left torso. Five additional double-strength heat sinks are mounted to alleviate the worst of the heat overproduction (two in the left torso, one each in the left arm, right torso, and right arm). Both arms have fully functional hand actuators.
Configuration D is based upon another BattleMech unknown to ComStar. The right arm carries a Gauss Rifle with 16 shots, while the left arm (with lower arm and hand actuators) is fitted with an ER Large Laser. The final weapon system is an ER Medium Laser in the head. A four-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso links all of the weapons together.
Configuration E is an artillery unit. The main weapon is an Arrow IV missile system in the right arm and right torso, with 20 Arrow IV missiles stored onboard. Secondary systems consist of an ER Large Laser (in a fully functional left arm), an ER Medium Laser in the left torso, and a TAG system in the left arm. A one-ton Targeting Computer in the head makes the laser fire more accurate for self-defense.
The Desert Tiger F is based upon the SLDF Grasshopper. Six jump jets are fixed to the torsos (3 each in the right and left torso), giving this design a jump capacity of 180 meters. The weaponry of this configuration consists of an ER Large Laser in the right arm, with four ER Medium Lasers supporting it (two in the left arm, one in the right arm, and one in the head). The scientists added an Active Probe in the right torso, an ECM Suite in the left torso, and a TAG system in the right arm; in order to accommodate the TAG, the design team had to remove the right arm hand actuator. A two-ton Targeting Computer is fitted to the right torso and seven additional double-strength heat sinks deal with all surplus heat except that generated by jumping more than 60 meters (DHS are installed in the right torso, two in the left torso, two in the right arm, and two in the left arm).
Configuration G is based upon the SLDF Archer. Although missile weapons are often disdained by the Clan Goliath Scorpion Warriors, they realize that sometimes indirect fire is necessary. Each torso carries an LRM-20 with Artemis IV FCS fed by a total of 36 missile salvoes (18 each). Each arm carries a single ER Medium Laser and a one-ton Targeting Computer is fitted to the head. Two extra DHS gives the Desert Tiger G perfect cooling capability for its systems. Each arm is outfitted with both lower arm and hand actuators.
The final configuration is the Desert Tiger H, which is based on the SLDF Marauder. Each arm (with lower arm and hand actuators) carries an ER Large Laser, while the right torso houses an LB-5X autocannon with 40 bursts. A three-ton Targeting Computer has been fitted to the left torso, and three additional double-strength heat sinks gives this model excellent cooling capabilities.
Battle History
The speed, firepower, and armor protection of the Desert Tiger proved itself time and again in Trials waged between the Scorpions and the Clans of Kerensky in the Homeworlds. Duing the Defense of Roche in the wake of the Scorpion Abjuration, it was these highly capable and fearsome OmniMechs which inflicted crippling losses on the Viper-led assaults against the Temple of the Nine Muses.
Notable Pilots
Star Colonel Angelina Pakhalina commands her 19th Scorpion Dragoon Cluster from the cockpit of a Desert Tiger, even though she could have chosen a heavier OmniMech. In the intense fighting on Circinus, the 19th Dragoons (Scorpion Strikers) took point in the fighting on the Laredo continent capturing the SLDF facilities left behind by General Kerensky prior to the Liberation of Terra. The close combat in the dense forests of Laredo negated most of the Scorpions range advantage, but the Word division assigned to the defense of the recently unearthed SLDF Headquarters was only a training division, manned by green troops and a small cadre of Manei Domini. Although casualties were above pre-battle projections, Star Colonel Pakhalina managed to defeat the Blakists and secure the complex for her Clan.
Deployment
Nearly seven hundred Desert Tigers were produced in the decade leading up to the Scorpion Abjuration. Of these, more than two hundred and fifty took park in the Defense of Roche and were destroyed by the Vipers and their allies; while some were certainly salvaged, no production facilities for this OmniMech remain in existence in the Homeworlds. The Scorpions did manage to remove the
machinery from their Dagda factory and hope to rebuilt the complex on Circinus.
Found in every Scorpion Cluster, from the light Hussars to the shock troops of the Cuirassier formations, the Desert Tiger is the heart and soul of the Scorpion Touman.

GOLIATH SCORPION
Overview
When Clan Goliath Scorpion began expanding and modernizing their Touman in the early 3050s, they saw a need for a unique heavy OmniMech that would serve to unite the Clan as a symbol of their transformation into a major power. For such an OmniMech, only one name was deemed appropriate: that of the Goliath Scorpion, the Clan's namesake and totem. Khan Suvorov believed that only by expanding the strength of her Touman would the Scorpions gain the respect of the other Clans . . . but her intentions inadvertently doomed the Scorpions position amid the Homeworld Clans. Rather than gaining respect, the sudden and rapid expansion of the Scorpions instead caused many of the other Clans of Kerensky to perceive the Scorpions as a threat. This miscalculation intensified the tension in the Homeworlds and was one factor that led directly the Scorpion Abjuration.
In order to save development time and effort, the Goliath Scorpion scientists assigned to this project used design schematics and blue-prints for the ancient SLDF Flashman as their starting point. Although the final product was five tons lighter than the old BattleMech, the final prototype bore an unmistakable resemblance to its unlikely ancestor.
Capabilities
The Goliath Scorpion is a powerful 70-ton heavy-weight OmniMech. Although not as large or well-armored as the famed Timber Wolf, and lacking the extremely flexible pod-space of the venerable Hellbringer, it quickly carved out a niche for itself in the Clans as a capable and fearsome design.
Scorpion engineers fitted the new OmniMech with Endo-Steel II internal structure and a 350-rate extra-light fusion engine. These measures saved vital mass and provided sufficient power for the OmniMech to walk at speeds of 54 kilometers per hour and run at 86.4 kph. For protection, 11 tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating was fitted to the design, 97.23% of maximum theoretical coverage for a 70-ton chassis. Fourteen double-strength heat sinks were banked within the sizeable engine core; while this saved volume, it also
reduced the available pod-space to just 29.5 tons.
The Goliath Scorpion Prime was outfitted with just three weapon systems: an ER PPC in both the right and left arms and an ER Large Laser in the center torso. Additional defensive fire was provided by an Anti-Missile System in the left torso, fed by 24 bursts of fire. All three weapons were tied into a four-ton Targeting Computer fitted to the right torso, and eight additional double-strength heat sinks (two in the right torso, three in the left torso, two in the right arm, and one in the left arm) gave this model remarkable heat dissipation capabilities. Brutally elegant in execution, the Goliath Scorpion Prime exemplifies the Clan's tendency towards using precise and heavy-hitting energy and ballistic weapons. Christened as the 'Awesome from Hell' by the first Inner Sphere MechWarriors to encounter the Prime, it remains the most common configuration to this day.
Configuration A featured a Gauss Rifle with 16 shots in the right arm, backed up by an ER PPC in the left arm and two ER Medium Lasers in the left torso. Once again, an AMS was fitted to the left torso with 24 bursts, and a four-ton Targeting Computer to the right torso. Only the base fourteen DHS were mounted, but this was deemed sufficient for the onboard heat production. The two remaining tons were used for an Active Probe in the right torso and an ECM Suite in the center torso.
The much-maligned Goliath Scorpion B was soundly criticized as being under-gunned by the other Clans when it first debuted. But it excels in its designed role as an Air-Defense unit. Each arm carries an LB-5X autocannon with 40 bursts (20 slug and 20 cluster per arm) and an ER Medium Laser. To provide additional long-range fire power, an ER Large Laser was fitted to the center torso. For anti-personnel work, a flamer was added to the left torso. The lasers and autocannon are tied into a five-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso. Once again, only the base fourteen DHS were installed; heat, however, is not a concern on this configuration.
Configuration C was developed for close combat operations. The primary weapons are two Large Pulse Lasers (right arm and left arm), supported by four Medium Pulse Lasers (two each in the right and left torso), and a Flamer (center torso). A four-ton Targeting Computer makes these weapons even more accurate and five additional DHS (for nineteen total, fitted one in the right torso, two in the left torso, and one each in the right and left arm) allow the Goliath Scorpion C to run and gun with all weapons except the flamer for zero net overheat production. The Goliath Scorpion C also features lower arm and hand actuators on both arms.
Configuration D is a general-purpose combatant. The right arm carries an ER PPC and an ER Medium Laser in an over/under pod, with a second ER Medium Laser in the left arm alongside a Streak SRM-6 with 15 missile salvoes. The left arm retains both the lower arm and hand actuators. Additional long-range firepower comes from an LRM-20 launcher with Artemis IV FCS in the left torso (18 missile
salvoes), while anti-personnel capabilities are provided for with two AP Gauss Rifles (40 bursts) in the right torso. An AMS is installed in the center torso for additional defensive protection with 24 bursts stored in the right torso. All non-missile weapons are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso, and three additional DHS (right torso, right arm, and left arm) help deal with the high heat buildup of this design.
The Goliath Scorpion E is an artillery unit. A massive Arrow IV artillery rocket system consumes the right arm and part of the right torso, with 20 rockets available for use. The left arm carries an ER PPC and an ER Medium Laser; two more ER Medium Lasers are fitted to the left torso. A Flamer provides anti-infantry and incendiary capability in the center torso. The PPC and Lasers are tied into a two-ton Targeting Computer in the left torso, and two additional DHS allows for the Goliath Scorpion E to fire all non-artillery weapons except the flamer while running for zero net heat production. Although artillery units such as the Goliath Scorpion E are viewed with disdain, the Scorpions have created an artillery unit that can also serve in the front-lines of the Touman, while still providing the Scorpions with on-call artillery fire as needed. That does not, on the other hand, make Configuration E any more popular among the Warriors of the Clan.
Configuration F adds five Jump Jets (one in the center torso and two each in the right and left torso). Armament consists of two ER Large Lasers (right arm and left arm), two ER Medium Lasers (right arm and left arm), and an LRM-15 with Artemis IV FCS in the left torso with 16 missile salvoes. A two-ton Targeting Computer is fitted to the right torso, and six additional DHS (two right torso, two right arm, and two left arm) deal with the worst effects of the heat production. This configuration has lower arm and hand actuators in both the right and left arms.
The Goliath Scorpion G is the final model used by Clan Goliath Scorpion. An in-fighter supreme, it carries an LB-20X autocannon in the right arm and part of the right torso with 20 bursts stored in the right torso (typically 5 cluster and 15 slug). For long-range work, an ER Large Laser is fitted to the left arm (which also has lower arm and hand actuators), along with an ER Medium Laser. Supplementing the firepower at close range is a Streak SRM-6 with 15 missile salvoes (left torso) and a Flamer (center torso). A four-ton Targeting Computer mounted in the left torso rounds out the design. The base fourteen DHS are considered sufficient.
Configuration H is a model introduced by the Snow Ravens after they secured production rights. This configuration carries a HAG-30 hyper-assault gauss as the primary weapon in the right arm . . . a massive six tons of ammunition stored in the right torso gives this weapon a full two dozen shots. Supporting the HAG at range is an LRM-15 with Artemis IV FCS in the left arm fed by 24 missile salvoes. Secondary weapons consist of three ER Medium Lasers (center torso, right torso, and left torso).
The Steel Vipers have introduced the Goliath Scorpion I, which favors their missile heavy doctrine. Each torso carries an ATM-12 launcher with 15 missile salvoes; secondary weapons consist of an ER Large Laser (right arm), an ER Medium Laser (left arm), and a Flamer (center torso). Four additional DHS (2 each in the right and left arms) gives excellent cooling capabilities.
The last known design is Clan Ghost Bear's Configuration J. Like the Goliath Scorpion F, this model carries five Jump Jets (one in the center torso and two each in the right and left torso). The left torso carries an Ultra AC-10 with 30 bursts (two tons stored in the left torso and one in the right). But the main weapons are carried in the arms: a Large Pulse Laser in the right arm, two Medium Pulse Lasers (one each in the right and left arm), a Small Pulse Laser (left arm), and a Flamer (left arm). This configuration is very similar to that of Clan Ghost Bear's Grizzly BattleMech and has become highly popular among the Warriors of that Clan.
Battle History
Although it has been in existence for just over a decade (the first Goliath Scorpion was unveiled late in 3057), these powerful OmniMechs have made an impression in both the Homeworlds and the Inner Sphere. It was Goliath Scorpions who led the fanatical defense of Roche against the Viper assault during the Scorpion Abjuration, and it was Goliath Scorpions who crushed the Word of Blake divisions on Circinus when the Clan conquered the Circinus Federation and transformed those worlds into the Scorpion Expanses.
Notable Pilots
Khan Jason Scott commands the Scorpion Touman from the cockpit of a Goliath Scorpion, considering it the perfect blend of survivability, firepower, and maneuverability for these troubled times. Although the Scorpions do possess an even more powerful assault-weight OmniMech, the reduction in speed means that the majority of the Star Colonels commanding Cuirassier Clusters and the various Scorpion Galaxy Commanders select this heavy OmniMech as their own command unit.
Deployment
Second only to the Desert Tiger in numbers, it is the Goliath Scorpion heavy-weight OmniMech (and the Warriors assigned to them) which makes the Clan Goliath Scorpion Touman so feared. Concentrated in the Cuirassier Clusters (although Dragoon Clusters have some as well), the Goliath Scorpion spearheads assaults and, when massed, provides the Clan with a nearly unstoppable offensive punch.
Unlike the medium-weight Desert Tiger, the Scorpions have not been able to retain exclusive rights to this design. Three Clans managed to shock the Scorpions in a series of Trials late in 3058, defeating the Clan and winning production rights: the Ghost Bears, the Snow Ravens, and the Steel Vipers.

Overview
The final OmniMech designed and placed into production by Clan Goliath Scorpion prior to their Abjuration from the Homeworlds was the assault-weight Dune Stalker. This massive and ponderous OmniMech carries and incredible array of weapon systems and is found only in the ranks of Scorpion Cuirassier Clusters (and the Clan's HQ Keshiks). Here, it serves as the mailed fist of the Scorpion, providing tremendous firepower when it is needed, albeit on a fairly slow-moving chassis.
Named to honor the Dune Stalker of Roche (a pachyderm derived from genetic engineering of the African elephant), this mighty OmniMech is every bit as impressive as its namesake. The Dune Stalker is a herd animal, but an aggressive one that defends its young with unflinchingly, even against great odds. Much like the elephant species of Old Terra, the Dune Stalker possess a prehensile snout and two long tusks, but its head and neck are also covered in a carapace of thick bone, with two additional ivory horns protruding over the eye ridges. A prominent hump of fatty tissue protrudes above the front shoulders; this part of the Dune Stalkers body collects and stores moisture against future need, allowing the Dune Stalker to travel for up to six weeks between watering holes in the wide wastes. Because of this ability to conserve scarce resources and its fanatical defense of its young, the Scorpion Khans chose to name their only home-built assault-weight OmniMech after the Dune Stalker.
Capabilities
Massing 90-tons, the Dune Stalker uses Endo-Steel II internal structure to save four-and-a-half tons of mass, but the design team chose to use standard armor to maximize available pod space on the design: seventeen tons of standard armor for 97.49% of maximum theoretical coverage. A 360-rate extra-light fusion engine allows for a walking speed of 43.2 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 64.8 kph. No equipment was fixed on this design, but the scientists responsible did bank four double-strength heat sinks in the engine core, giving the Dune Stalker a total of fourteen in every configuration. Final pod-space available for weapons and equipment was a massive forty-one tons.
With the name of Dune Stalker, the primary configuration was all but assured: two ER Large Lasers are fitted one each to the right torso and left torso, supported by four ER Medium Lasers, two each in the right and left arms. A pair of LRM-10 launchers with Artemis IV FCS and 48 missile salvoes are mounted in the arms, while two Streak SRM-6 missile systems with 30 missile salvoes are divided among the right and left torso. Four AP Gauss Rifles were then fitted to provide anti-personnel capability, two each in the right torso and left torso, fed by 80 bursts of ammunition (one each in the right torso and left torso). A three-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso ensures that the laser fire is always accurate, while three additional double-strength heat sinks (left torso, right arm, and left arm) join the fourteen integral units for a total of seventeen. Even so, the Dune Stalker Prime cannot withstand a full volley of its own weapons . . . it generates enough heat on an Alpha strike to detonate its onboard ammunition or shut down the OmniMech instantly. However, when properly used in brackets, a Warrior can easily balance his heat load, producing withering fire that only gets more powerful as the range closes. Both arms lack lower arm and hand actuators and can pivot (or flip) to fire at targets behind the OmniMech, providing the Dune Stalker with exceptional rear-firing firepower.
Configuration A is primarily intended for long-range operations. A Gauss Rifle with 24 shots in the right arm is the main weapon, backed up by an ER Large Laser in the left arm, which is outfitted with both lower arm and hand actuators. An LRM-20 launcher with Artemis IV and 24 missile salvoes fills up the left torso. For close combat, the design also has a Streak SRM-6 launcher with 15 missile salvoes in the right torso and two ER Medium Lasers, mounted one each in the right torso and left torso. An ECM Suite has been fitted to the head and a four-ton Targeting Computer is mounted in the right torso. One additional double-strength heat sinks is also fitted to the right torso.
The Dune Stalker B is an energy boat par excellence. Four Large Pulse Lasers (two each in the right and left arm) are the main guns, backed up by a single Medium Pulse Laser in the center torso. These are the only weapons carried, but the Dune Stalker B also has a six-ton Targeting Computer (right torso) and no fewer than NINE additional double-strength heat sinks, for a total of twenty-three. This is sufficient to run and fire every weapon for zero net heat production. Both arms are equipped with lower arm and hand actuators, as well.
Configuration C is an unorthodox configuration that matches an ER Large Laser and an LB-10X autocannon with 20 shots in each arm, with a single ER Medium Laser in the center torso. All five weapons are tied into a six-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso, and one additional double-strength heat sink compensates for most of this configurations heat production. Excess overheat is minimal. Both arms are capable of flipping and the Scorpions use this configuration to provide heavy anti-aerospace defense to their touman.
Configuration D fits four Jump Jets to the chassis (two each in the right and left torsos). The long-range gun is an ER PPC in the left arm, but the main weapon is an LB-20X autocannon in the right arm with 20 bursts stored in the right torso. Three ER Medium Lasers, fitted one each in the center torso, left torso, and left arm, are secondary weapons. All weapons are tied into a five-ton Targeting Computer in the right torso, with three additional double-strength heat sinks (two in the right torso and one in the left torso). Although not enough to dissipate the full heat generated (especially on a jumping Alpha Strike), it is enough for a veteran Warrior to balance his heat load.
The final known configuration is the Dune Stalker E, which was developed by Clan Jade Falcon after they managed to obtain production rights. This version carries a HAG-20 in the right torso with 24 bursts, a Gauss Rifle in the left torso with 24 shots (two tons in the right torso, one in the center torso), two ER Large Lasers mounted one each in the right arm and left arm (with full actuators), and an ER Medium Laser in the head. Three additional double strength heat sinks deal with all but movement heat and are mounted in the left
torso, right arm, and left arm.
Battle History:
The sheer firepower of the Dune Stalker came as a horrific shock to the Word of Blake forces stationed on Circinus. Tasked with breaking the Manei Domni, the Dune Stalkers were the spearhead which led the assault against their opponents. The largest disadvantage of these OmniMechs was their limited numbers, being more scarce in the Scorpion touman than another other of the new OmniMechs, except for the light-weight Hooded Eagle and Hellwasp designs. Fewer than 100 Dune Stalkers are to be found in the Scorpion Touman, post Abjuration . . . and of those, only half were present on Circinus for the pivotal battle which secured that system for the Goliath Scorpions. Here, their heavy armor and firepower stood them in good stead as they took concentrated fire but still managed to decimate the Blakist lines.
Deployment:
Found primarily in the Scorpion Cuirassier Clusters and the Scorpion Command Keshiks of the Goliath Scorpion touman, the Dune Stalker is reserved for heavy combat operations and is normally assigned only to the most elite Warriors assigned to a Cluster. But the Scorpions are not the only user of this assault-weight OmniMech. In 3060, the Jade Falcons won a hard-fought Trial on Roche that gave them production rights. Since then, the Dune Stalker has served in Falcon colors as well. Additional isorla has passed to other Clans, but only in limited numbers.

Acer Aspire Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. My brower is Internet Explorer 11.0 (what came installed when I purchased the laptop).
It's no big deal, Mordel. I figure that my OS isn't compatible with the database . . . you even have that little warning in there to advise me of it.
