I have been pondering this for a while now and I was wondering what everyone else thought on the subject.
How early can a mech be introduced in the universe before it appears in a TRO. I have this question because I'm writing a book right now, it's set in 3055 and I was wondering if it would be unlikely that any units from TRO 3058. So the example I'm going to use is the Lineholder. it's in 3058, but when did it actually roll off the assembly line for sale? 3051? early 3058? I personally think that it would have had to have been deployed in at least 3052. At the earliest, it would have needed at least a year to go through field testing, then on sale in 3053. giving it at least 2 years of sales to validate it for the TRO.
So is that crazy? or does it make since. I am just curious what everyone else thinks. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". Well, they describe that several runs are made for experimentation and field testing years before it goes into official production.
They never specify exactly how many and for how long. But it is not unusual to see a lance to company stationed on the factory world with another lance to company deployed in big name units across the nation. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I could see a few being loaned to say the Hounds or to an elite House unit for field testing prior to production beginning or maybe the company has their own merc unit that tests them.... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Oh I agree completely with that. but after the field testing phase, how many years of sales would a mech need to be considered for a TRO. if you look at 3058, several designs in there are already old, and in some cases are originally star league designs that have been rediscovered. so they technically could have been added into any of the TRO's previous to that. But say the Lineholder says it broke sales records for mechs in the 55 ton weight class. and then goes on to say that because of the brisk sales they are going to market a upgraded model.
I guess I am wondering if it would be available in 3055. (Would like to use it in my story, and wondering if its to far fetched to use) _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". You would have to read each entry's fluff and decide for yourself if its story indicates significant justification. Inclusion from a universe stand point mostly appears to be whether or not the unit is likely to be encountered or deployed or greatly deviates from the standard. Like the first mech with Heavy Gauss, if memory serves it was included despite just beginning its production run. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

The Chaos March sourcebook, which is set sometime in 3058, says the Lineholder is not available yet. (Kressly debuted the Blizzard, their first combat vehicle, in 3054--it would be shocking if they developed 'Mech manufacturing capability only a year later.)
It may interest you to know that the Griffin-1S is fairly similar to the Lineholder, and (if I remember correctly) the Lineholder is based on a Griffin chassis.

See that is odd because the TRO 3058 says its already set sales records in 3058 for the 55 ton weight class.which tells me that it would have had to have been available before that. I hate it when they say one thing in a book then contadict it in another. It makes it far to cloudy.
Thank you for the info. I dont have that book yet so I didnt know that. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". I presume Chaos March is dated to an earlier month than TR:3058. And you're welcome! Info like that is sometimes (though not usually) hidden outside the TROs.
