-7 to critical hits by no means represents slow flying arrow's lesser destructive potencial. The actual damage would actually have to be lower and the critical hit table unmodified. Anyway the weapon is, aside from having anime-style looks, rather cumbersome.
ACs don't have a pre-set number of shells and calibre. The AC class is just a rough representation of the destructive potential of one burst from the weapon, be it three 100 mm or eight 75 mm shells. The only only pre-set number of shots in the rules are the rifles AFAIK. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

With calibers ranging from 30 to 90 millimeters at the lighter end, to as much as 203 millimeters or more at the heaviest, most autocannons deliver their damage by firing high-speed streams or bursts of high-explosive, armor-defeating shells through one or more barrels. While caliber and firing rate can vary greatly, four main classes have emerged over the centuries, setting the standards by which all other ACs are rated, based on their relative ballistic damage. At the lightest end is the AC/2 class, followed by the long-time standard AC/5, then the heavy punch of the AC/10 class, and finally the brutal, close-in AC/20. |
ACs of a single class vary in caliber and firing rate. They do not fire a set number of shells as a class, only a model.
wrote: | Decision at Thunder Rift - The Marauder did not share the humanoid appearance of most 'Mechs. Instead, its 75 tons of arms and armor were molded into a crablike body mounted on a pair of oversized legs that knifed back and down in a forward-leaning, digitigrade stance.
The machine was old, patched and etched with the signs of frequent repairs and replacements. The black and grey paint pattern was broken in places by brown rust and old battle scars. A pair of arms hung suspended from just forward of the leg joints, each mounting a heavy particle cannon and a laser in over-under mounts where hands and forearms might be expected in a living being. The massive tube of a 120 mm rapid-fire autocannon balanced above the body, completing the battle machine's armament.

The 55-ton 'Mech dominated the cavernous Bay, a vast, humanoid shape of gray and rust-streaked metal and faded paint surrounded by the metal scaffolding that had been raised around it.
Grayson appraised the 'Mech with expert eyes. From the look of things, they'd been remounting its backpack and autocannon, both of which had been removed to facilitate the trap that had nearly killed him and wiped out his entire assault force in this very room. The backpack housed the 'Mech's primary heat exchangers and the cockpit's life support systems, as well as mountings, ammunition, and the control circuitry for the 90 mm autocannon that was now set in the rest position, aiming straight up. The back unit could be removed for maintenance and repair operations, but the 'Mech would not be fully combat ready without it. The BattleMech certainly looked combat ready now. |
wrote: | Wolves on the Boarder - Colin MacLaren suddenly seemed to get another idea. His Marauder lunged out of the line toward a concentration of the Davion infantry. Like a beast of prey, the alien shape of the BattleMech stalked forward. With blistering laserfire emanating from its blocky forearms, it sought among the entrenchments for its victims.
The Feds held their ground until MacLaren opened up with the 120mm autocannon. Its snout ranged back and forth above the 'Mech's carapace, spitting explosive death at the infantry. The destruction so wrought was enough for the Feds. They broke. |
wrote: | The Price of Glory - Through the smoke, he could make out another 'Mech lumbering toward him—a Rifleman—and its horrifying firepower was concentrated on him. Twin lasers fired one after another, opening Maranov's armored torso and peeling back the edges. Twin autocannon sent 80 mm rapid fire shells smashing into the ruin. |
wrote: | The Price of Glory - When Delmar Clay's Wolverine walked up, its autocannon spitting 60 mm shells in short, choppy bursts, the Rifleman pilot decided that three-to-one odds were too much, and began backing up. |
All AC/5s, all a different caliber. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

yeah, i've read the fluff that mentions how each AC differs in size; i was just using my formulas for simple & standard measurements. _________________ "Okay friendlies, you're not paid to be exclusively a 'MechWarrior', vehicle/spacecraft crewer, fighter pilot, or infantry trooper. okay i added some fluff, added a rule for various tonnaged 'Mechs that use the 'Mechbow, and changed the Determining Critical Hits Table modifier to -4 _________________ "Okay friendlies, you're not paid to be exclusively a 'MechWarrior', vehicle/spacecraft crewer, fighter pilot, or infantry trooper.
