ceramic graphene armor
is a mixture of a ceramic that has a melting point of 4,215^oC
www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=melting+point+for+ceramic
and also of graphene that is 40 times stronger than diamond
www.graphenea.com/pages/graphene-graphite#.VWInVU_BzRY
, and provides 600 points of armor per ton when using standard scale points, but ceramic graphene armor isn't standard armor but does follow the rules for standard armor with the following exceptions:
may not be merged with any other kinds(s) of armor(s) except for reactive/reflective armor, but may be "layered" on the same location(s) with other armor(s), and may use patchwork armor rules
takes up 0 critical/item slots unless mounted with other kind(s) of armor(s) that do take up critical/item slot(s), and may be mounted on any structure/vehicular unit ('Mech, ProtoMech, Battle Armor, conventional vehicle, conventional fighter, aerospace fighter, spacecraft, etc.) to include hardened armor's Determining Critical Hits Table modifier;
has a tech rating of E;
has a cost of 700,000 C-bills per each ton of ceramic graphene armor;
disregard these rules for tungsten carbide armor: today, i did a search for "melting points of metals" and i found this link
www.engineeringtoolbox.com/melting-temperature-metals-d_860.html
i then searched for "tungsten stronger than steel" and i found this link for tungsten carbide
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten_carbide
it appears that tungsten has a melting point twice that of steel and a strength twice that of steel.
so here's the rules for tungsten carbide armor:
Tungsten carbide armor follows the rules for standard armor with the following exceptions: tungsten carbide replaces all steel in said armor so basically you've got a new armor of aligned crystal tungsten carbide diamond monofilabe armor; and this new armor provides 32 points of armor per ton; and may not be combined with lamellor ferro carbide armor, or any ferro-fibrous armor, but may be combined with reactive, reflective, or hardened armor; and this new armor costs 3 times as much as standard armor; and this armor is available for use by Inner Sphere, Periphery, and Clan personnel but only after their respective affiliations have studied tungsten carbide using the Think Tank Life Path event that provides for new discovery. _________________ "Okay friendlies, you're not paid to be exclusively a 'MechWarrior', vehicle/spacecraft crewer, fighter pilot, or infantry trooper. There is a little problem with that. Tungsten is rather heavy. When steel has density of 7.something, your tungsten alloy has over 15, so basically you are not getting double armour points per ton. More like already existing hardened armour with less coverage per ton, but more durable points. Plus don't forget that standard armour is not just steel, but a sandwich of various components. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

The density of Tungsten carbide averages 15.63 g/cm3. |
Tungsten Carbide therefor weighs nearly TWICE that of steel. Thus for the same MASS, you get HALF the thickness. So while it may be twice as resistant to heat and twice as resistant to breaking, it also comes out at half the coverage thus a null effect. Also, it kind of sounds like Hardened Armor to me: 8 pts per ton but each point absorbing 2pts of damage.

A diamond is extremely strong, but it shatters relatively easily. So would tungsten carbide break under shearing forces easier then steel? if so, falling, skidding, and missiles would cause big issues. How about compression? Would a ballistic round smash right through a plate of armor because the plate cannot absorb and displace the compression forces of the round?
Do a google search on armor plate tests in WW2 and read up just a bit then come back to these rules to make a more informed item. It simply to slap dash as is. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

We delete very little around here. Besides, someone down the road may ask the same question, and find it's already been answered! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
