I believe they've got two versions of it. The original and the 1A5. You can contact Drew over at Ironwind Metals and ask him, I'm sure he can tell you if they plan on making the SA5.

So far both you and Nightmare seem to think that the mechs can be great . . . as long as their changed. If you treat all the parts as customizable then its no use pointing out the charger as sucky, because you can always turn it into a Zeus. My point: when criticizing mechs lets deal with book configs.

The Charger is probably the worst of those 3025 mechs. While Nightmare may prefer to look at the mechs within the context of their roles, I cannot help but admit that on any given day the Assassin could give the Charger a good butt-wup'in.

Why does everyone (and I do mean EVERYONE) rate mechs on how well they duel?

Hmm... And here I thought the CGR-1A5 Charger (from 4th SW Scenario Pack) and the CGR-SA5 Charger (found in RS Upgrades) were book 'Mechs. I guess I was wrong.

Dueling is the type of game I have played most, simply because anything more is generally too time consuming. Three hours is about the maximum amount of time I want to spend on a game. Furthermore, since I don't RP at all or play campaign style games it is only natural to compare mechs based on their performance in a stand-up fight.

Warner said it. There are variants that don't suck, and rebuilding the machine is possible.

The Banshee as rebuilt by House Steiner is another fine example of a tractor turned into a real assault mech.

First I don;t rate everything on how well they duel, i rate on mostly how well they stand up against the others in the same class.

second; I just got done invading Sian last weekend and that took Fri,Sat and Sun to get through, was an 'interesting' weekend. the whole point was to excercise my taticial brilliance.

Third I agree about the Banshee, used to hate it now one of my fav's.

Fourth. I NEED a beer....

Then you're rating mechs wrong...you should be rating mechs on how they stand up to other with the same "job", not weight class. By comparing it to other of it's weight class you are in effect comparing how well it will duel.

The 3025 Charger is an 80 ton, experimental scout mech when used as the fluff suggests. I don't think you've mentioned that at all, which is doing it an disservice.

I dissagree, rating them according to the weight class is not on how well they duel. Example, the Treb. and Enforcer. in a duel depending on terain and other factors one or the other would have the advantage ( ie:long open terrain would proably go to the Treb, while dense woods would mostly favor the Enforcer) But according to what that weight class is mostly used for they are about even. ( using the average player mind you, not some of the more 'inovative' that are floating around...) so keeping that in mind ( remembering always when trying to explain to newbies and kids I have to keep it simple and idiot proof) I put up what I both think and what I feel, and a lot of the times they don't go together, but at least i'm being honest about it. In the past 30 years playing this game I have got to see them at their best an worst so feel pretty confident in what I review them as. ALSO taking in mind that most 'new folks' ( Being nice) don't have the patience to grasp even fundamental tatics and all they want to do is go bonehead to bonehead, where the rest of us know our way around the strength's and weakness of most everything ever designed and have that in our bloody memory ( Kinda sad when you think about it) and know how to use most any design not as an individual lone fighter but to meld them into units(Lances ,Companys, Reg's, Div's ect..) to cover any lack or weakness .( example one of my brawler lances using 'book' 3025's Hunchback, P-hawk, Jenner, Warhammer)
Anyways like Dennis Miller says.." I don't wanna go off on a rant, but...

I agree that both the Banshee and Charger are sound frameworks for a cheap redesign into good mechs.

a base charger with an XL engine and Llas/ppc's with DHS makes an excellent heavy cavalry mech. good mobility linked with enough firepower to be useful once it gets there.

A little bit of work on the Banshee, like the Lyrans did, makes it a much more useful mech.

The Circus in the Homestead Campaign used both designs as the basis for some pretty nice ground up rebuilds. I post them over on the HMP website a while back, look at the mech designs way back on page 39-40 there. They are also on download. They are Level 3 due to mixed sphere/clan tech, but nothing on them is of itself L3.

No, just good solid squelch harmonics like you get in an auditorium. It serves to chase of Infantry, Animals, and Innocent Idiots who fail to run when their neighborhood turns into a battlefield.

An equivalent to "flee you fools" line Gandolf used. (good delivery too)

Lest us not forget that although the Charger may seem to be one of the weaker designs in 3025 it is still a a very KEWL looking mech!!

And I agree with Chihawk about not just comparing Mechs by Class. One must also compare cost (in C-Bills), compare Battle Value, and Compare other mechs designed for similar tasks/jobs. While it is fair to compare the Archer to the Trebuchet and the Catapult, it's not really worthwhile to compare it to a Warhammer or Marauder.
