All of this is why at one point I had 3 copies of the compendium. I kept finding them at used book stores or at thrift shops and buying them whether I needed it or not. I would rather use the real thing than copies.

I always hang on to my old rulebooks. Heck, I even have the original 3rd ed basic rules and citytech. I even have the Battletech Compendium on my shelf, right next to my hardcover Rules of Warfare. And the 4th Succession war? I have two scenario packs. What can I say, Im a packrat when it comes to this stuff.

Oh, I am at least that bad. I still have my 2nd edition rules and play using the paper fold-over pieces. The cities I use are left over matboard and cold press cut into squares with the stats scrawled on top. I finally had to go through all of my mech sheets and throw out the ripped and wrinkled ones. (you can tell what mechs I used when I lost really badly one time)

You've only lost really badly once? Wow! You're a much better player than I am. I've had my butt handed to me tons of times. When I first started playing at one of the first cons I went to, I had a pile of 'mechs. I would pick two and let chihawk select whichever one he wanted. He cleaned the board with me each time. Luckily, he's deteriorated as a player, so payback is now enjoyable for me.

I once dropped a company of modified League designs onto a planet for a good city fight. I lost 8 mechs and only had 2 ded clanners to show for it. I got my clock cleaned big and bad.
