Situation: A group of irregulars, supported by partisans, is looking to liberate a POW camp.
Terrain: Similar to that of Yukon, Canada.
Time of day: Night
Weather: As it is shortly before Christmas, snow is falling and ice is present on the roads.
Irregulars:
*Phoenix Hawk LAM MK II, "ace" pilot (0 Piloting, 0 Gunnery) in both modes.
*Buccaneer, "green" pilot (4 piloting, 4 gunnery)
*custom Condor hover tank, "regular" crew (3 piloting, 3 gunnery average)
*Savannah Master, "veteran" pilot (2 piloting, 2 gunnery)
*Hover APC, "veteran" pilot (2 piloting, 2 gunnery)
*Heavy Hover Mobile HQ, "elite" crew (1 piloting, 1 gunnery)
Militia:
*1 team of "regular" infantry on board the party's Hover APC
*1 "armor" team (2 Saladins, 2 Scimitars, 2 Saracens), all "regular"
*1 "force recon" team (6 Savannah Masters), all "regular"
*Mechanized infantry detachment consisting of 8 hover APCs and full infantry complements, mixed skill rankings
The irregulars and the partisans have done a fair amount of damage to the Blakist forces in the region over the past two months thanks to a mix of guerrilla tactics and absurdly bold strikes. Not only have they wiped out entire patrols and columns, they've captured two key Blakist facilities (a firebase and an airfield) and taken out a pair of high-ranking Blakist mechwarriors. Unable to afford further losses, the surviving Blakists in this sector have begun to dig in around the remaining bases.
One of the bases that is now hyper-fortified is a POW camp that the partisans want to see liberated; if the camp is liberated, then this will give the partisans an instant supply of trained and motivated soldiers. The Blakists know this, and know that if the POWs are liberated then the Blakist cause in that sector is lost.
The commander of the camp is hesitant to "dispense with" the POWs, as he fears finding himself in front of a firing squad if he is ever captured. However, several junior officers among the surviving Blakist forces are contemplating "removing him" and razing the camp before fleeing to a more defensible position. The team has to take the camp in a single assault or else the junior officers will have their way.
The plan calls for the party to launch a straight-up strike on the compound, the idea being that if they hit the Blakist forces hard enough they'll force the Blakists to pivot everything around. If the Blakists do pivot things around, the partisans are hoping that a weak spot will open in the compound's defenses. The Savannah Masters are to be tasked with probing for such a weak spot, and once one is found the "armor" team will breach it so that the APCs can rush through.
I'm trying to come up with a Blakist disposition that would be a challenge for the mixed team to break through but not so difficult as to be impossible.
I'm going to include several VTOLs (such as Ferrets, Rippers, and perhaps even a Pinto or two) as refugees from the captured airbase, and at least two mixed companies of Scorpions, Vedettes, Magi, and Bulldogs representing survivors from the various armor units. There will also be several platoons of Blakist infantry and a few teams of battle armor, with the requisite transports.
Any ideas on what types and numbers of mechs I should include?
Thanks. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)
