Overview:
When the Star League first looked to create a Royal unit of the Stalker, a more limited
redesign was explored prior to what became the STK-3Fb. This model, the 3FbX, was lost to
history until a single memory core was retrieved from a forgotten corner of Terra during the
Jihad.
Capabilities:
The original STK-3F Stalker has long been famed as a capable 'Mech, as long as the pilot
used bracket fire in lieu of alpha striking at all times. The 3FbX is much the same, only
moreso.
Utilizing an endo-steel framework saved weight, as did dropping 8 heat sinks and switching
the remaining 12 to double-strength ones. This also served to increase the 'Mech's heat
dissipation by 20%. The primary difference between the 3FbX and other Stalker models is how
this freed mass was utilized. Long range firepower was increased by switching out the LRM-10
racks for LRM-15's, but otherwise, the armament remains the same as a standard 3F model. The
primary difference comes in endurance and versatility. The older model was limited to a mere
1 ton of reloads per launcher. The 3FbX has a total of 4 tons of ammo for its SRM's and a
whopping 6 tons for its LRM-15's. Not only does this expand its endurance on the
battlefield, it allows the 'Mech to carry specialty ammunition for its launchers without
copromizing its combat effectiveness. Many pilots choose to carry 4 tons of standard ammo, a
ton of smoke and a ton of Thunder or a second ton of smoke rounds for its LRM launchers, and
2 tons of standard, a ton of Inferno and a ton of fragmentation ammo for its SRM's.
The 3FbX defenses were also enhanced. The last two tons of saved mass were used to install
CASE in both side torsos, and an additional ton of armor spread over its arms, legs and side
torsos.
Deployment:
Only a few prototypes of this 'Mech were manufactured, so very few units were able to trial
the design. While its pilots raved about the 'Mech's capabilities, the decision was made to
go with the model that was finally designated the STK-3Fb Royal Stalker.
