Ok. We need to discuss where we are going to take the game.
We have lost the mass majority of our players, we have lost our CO, and response time from those still active has increased. I have allowed my own processing time to become excessive. Yes, I may have good reasons but I am still responsible to provide a timely experience.
As such, we need to figure out what if anything to do.
Here are the options that I see at this time:
1. Stop the campaign.
2. Reorganize and continue as before.
3. Reorganize and shrink the player base then continue as before.
4. Reorganize and find a new play-by-post format.
5. Reorganize and migrate to active online games.
6. Other.
Detailed.
1. Stop the campaign.
We have had fun, and maybe it is time to call it, pack up our dice, and bid each-other a good day. The campaign would end with the Horseman dissolving and finding new units to signed up with. Positives: the game ends, no more checking in. Negatives: the game ends, we don't get to see the universe evolve.
2. Reorganize and continue as before.
We find out who is still here, reach out to recruit new players, and then figure out a new organizational chart. Someone promotes to the CO spot and takes over. We get everything set up to as close as it was when we started, then resume play ASAP. Positives: the game continues, and we get new blood with a fresh start. Negatives: we face many if not all of the same problems as the last contract.
3. Reorganize and shrink the player base then continue as before.
We find out who is still here, assign multiple units to each player, recruit if necessary, and then figure out a new organizational chart. Someone promotes to the CO spot and takes over. We get everything set up with a smaller player base, then resume play ASAP. Positives: the game continues, and we get faster and more reliable response rates with proven players. Negatives: everyone gains more responsibility via multiple units and we may still face many if not all of the same problems as the last contract.
4. Reorganize and find a new play-by-post format.
We find out who is still here and then figure out a new organizational chart that may or may not include new players. Someone promotes to the CO spot and takes over. We get everything set up and then resume play ASAP. Positives: the game continues, and we try out something new. Negatives: we may face new unknown issues while possibly fixing none of the existent issues.
5. Reorganize and migrate to active online games.
We move to megamek. We find out who is still here and then figure out a new organizational chart that may or may not include new players. Someone promotes to the CO spot and takes over. And then we schedule a day to play where we try to resolve each encounter in a single day. Positives: the game continues, and we play through encounters faster. Negatives: we loose a lot of our play-by-post freedoms.
6. Give a detailed suggestion. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I wish to change my vote to both
3 Reorganize and shrink the player base then continue as before
and
5 Reorganize and migrate to active online games.
because I am game to continue as PBeM but with a method to move by a response to an email.
What is important is to resolve it faster, which is why I think the Megamek is a good idea.
Then Just pasting the combat results created in the summaries.
Maybe each player that stays active gets a lance instead of one mech?
One mech is good if the battles are small, but players might be losing interest because one small light mech has very little significance in a huge battle as we have now.

I'd be all for MegaMek, but it is going to be impossible to find a day when folks can play, especially given the varied locations of everyone! I really wish there was a turn-based alternative. Just of the hip, but a server could be setup that is persistent and players login to take their turn. Might be doable. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I'd be interested in seeing how a Megamek campaign would work, but I would need someone to give me some very Barney level instructions on how to get Megamek to work. I've tried off and on for several years and never could figure out how to get it to work.

Ohh a lot of ideas that are very good, though those weren't what I meant... I was thinking of players sending in their moves to Vaga and then he would move them in Megamek as ordered, and the results would be posted. Yes? another possibility...
