Overview:
Decades of living beyond their means caught up to the Smoke Jaguars during the invasion of
the Inner Sphere. The logistical strain of full-scale warfare broke the back of the Smoke
Jaguar logistical system, based as it was on the warrior caste's demand for the the best
military equipment available, regardless of expense, combined with the same caste's refusal
to foster the development of an economic system capable of sustaining this level of military
spending. The Smoke Jaguar touman that invaded the Inner Sphere was well-equipped with
top-rank omnimechs like the Stormcrow, the Warhawk, and the Dire Wolf, but had no means of
replacing these expensive machines if they were lost. The hubris of the Smoke Jaguars
insured that they were unable to conceive of a situation where these machines would be lost,
but that all changed after the battle of Tukayyid.
With even front-line galaxies forced to equip themselves with whatever could be produced at
captured Inner Sphere factories, or even worse, with salvage taken from Draconis Combine
forces, the Smoke Jaguars demanded a new line of mech designs from the scientist caste that
would incorporate clan technology but which could be produced cheaply in the Inner Sphere
within a year. The Stalker IIC was the first of these designs.
The warrior caste has resisted the development of new assault 'mechs patterned after Inner
Sphere designs, but the indesputable combat effectiveness of the Stalker IIC has softened
these attitudes somewhat. The presence of the Atlas IIC in front-line Jaguar units has also
helped ease the acceptance of the Stalker IIC.
Capabilities:
Modeled on one of the most infamous assault 'mechs of all time, the Stalker IIC is a
fearsome beast at any range. It bristles with laser and missile batteries. Like the Inner
Sphere versions, it carries more weapons than its heat sinks can handle, but they are
organized into brackets, making the 'mech able to inflict heavier damage than a design which
carries enough heat sinks to fire all of its weapons at one time, but in consequence,
carries fewer weapons. The number of redundant weapon systems also insures that the Stalker
IIC is an extremely difficult 'mech to disarm.
The 'mech is slow for a clan assault machine, as a consequence of carrying a standard
engine. This has not been a problem for the Jaguars, who are used to relying on the
ponderous Daishi for making frontal assaults.
Deployment:
Only a small number of Stalker IIC 'mechs were assembled by the Smoke Jaguars prior to
Operaton Bulldog. Those which were deployed had found slots in front-line clusters, a mark
of how degraded the Smoke Jaguar's battlemech forces had become. At the beginning of the
invasion virtually all front-line forces were equipped with omnimechs.
